ASCAP says I WANT TO MARRY A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER was written by Erica (note spelling) Eigen. It also credits her (with the same spelling) for 3 other songs. IMDb says Erika (note different spelling) Eigen wrote and performed it in “A Clockwork Orange.” It doesn’t list her for anything else. I’m going with “Erica.”

I just spent too much time researching this song and transcribing it for the thread Songs about lighthouses, only to find it had already been posted here. When will I ever learn?

The definitive (I suppose) recording can be found on the soundtrack album of “A Clockwork Orange” (1971) and can be heard on YouTube.

Yes, 'keep him company' does seem to suggest a male lighthouse keeper, but I thought I could change it to 'her company' without too many musical problems.

I have considered 'I want to marry a lighthouse keeperess' or 'lighthouse keeperette' but I think the song is funny enough as it is.

I have just started playing the ukulele and I am a keen sailor - so this song is ideal - both nautical and funny.

Damn! I was just about to look through the stack for the Kweskin LP. (I already knew it was Erika Eigen, but the power of suggestion......)

The Malcolm MacDowell website lists two versions. one from Eigen's Sunforest group, the other specially adapted for the Clockwork Orange soundtrack.

And maybe I will hunt out the Kweskin album anyway ( but tomorrow, too late tonight).

"I want to marry a lighthouse keeper" just surfaced on an ad on ITV3 Uk digital channel. As usual I didn't get to the tv in time to record it or identify who the advert was for. Must have missed this in '68. And I must get round to watching "Clockwork Orange" seriously (rather than letting it play in the background while I try to avoid eye contact).

This song is also on the "Clockwork Orange" soundtrack. Remarkable soundtrack, for a very... interesting movie. Even if you can't take the film, the soundtrack is pretty damned good. Good classical, this song, 'Singing in the Rain', some interesting early synth works... I'm personally partial to the synthed "Ode to Joy"
