Mathew....Enter Percy French in the "DT and Forum Search" and you'll see he's been talked about a lot.

And aside from some wonderful music-hall type songs, French wrote a magnificent set of parodies of various poets' styles, setting out "Little Boy Blue" as written by Browning, Kipling, etc... Worth looking for!

Thanks Snuffy, and 'Spaw - I'm always amazed by what treasures turn up in a DT and Forum search - I should have looked there first. We used to have an LP at home of Percy French songs - I'll have to dig it out next time I visit the Aged P's, as there were other good songs which haven't been mentioned. I remember reading on the sleevenotes that he wrote "Ballyjamesduff" (Come Back Paddy Reilly) in one day in a contest with another writer when challenged to produce a song about a place with a really improbable name like Ballyjamesduff !
