Hi. This song is in the Digitrad but it is not the version I've heard. Some of the lyrics I've heard are as follows:

Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat,
please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, then a ha'penny will do. If you haven't got a ha'penny then God bless you.

Are there more words and does any one have the chords?

Thank you all so much.

Love, Annamill

You know, now that I think about it, I think it was Peter, Paul and Mary that did the version I know.

PP&M Merge Christmas is coming with "a-soulin" and "Hey-ho nobody home" don't they?

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond but I'm crazy busy and I have no puter at home. I don't really remember if that is true about PP&M. I know I love the song and I've actually been picking up my guitar. (Now lets not get too excited) The urge has been exceptionally strong lately and I might do something. I've been trying "There were roses", but I keep crying.

Love, Annamill

Hi, Anna - if it's PP&M lyrics you seek, try http://www.peterpaulandmary.com - look under "music," and then go to lyrics. I don't think they did that one. If they did, it would have been on their Holiday Celebration album. There was a time when I knew all the lyrics to all the songs Peter, Paul and Mary recorded. I've spent the last five years trying to unlearn them, so people like Bill D and Sandy Paton don't razz me about it...
I will admit that Bill and Sandy have lifted me to a higher plane, but there was a time when I was almost a PP&M groupie and got free tickets and backstage passes, and saw the platinum records, and had pizza with Noel "Paul" Stookey and cool stuff like that. Actually, I got the privileges probably because I was not a groupie, but just a nice guy who liked the music. I did meet some real PP&M groupies, and they were scary.

Boy, didn't they cover some fine songs though. Chees! Thank you for that Joe. I had forgotten. I didn't find that song, but that's ok. I did find some good lyrics to some fine songs. I'm happy for a while. Thanks to every one.

This is sung as a "round", and there are no additional lyrics. BTW, forget about PP&M, if you want to hear an excellent version go get "The Last Month of the Year" by the Kingston Trio. Yes, that's right....they made the very best Christmas album yet- full of great traditional songs, and none of the typical "Chestnuts Roasting on the blah blah blah" junk that everyone seems to think represents Christmas.
