Subject: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: Sorcha Date: 02 Dec 01 - 10:34 AM I KNOW there was a thread about this recently, but I can't find it. Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: katlaughing Date: 02 Dec 01 - 10:44 AM HeyaSorcha, I believe the one you are looking for, or at least a derivative of it, is this one: Homemade Instruments. In Capt. Bob's first posting, he includes the addy of a friend up north in Minnesota who has really neat plans for hurdy-gurdys as well as neat other instruments. kat |

Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: JohnInKansas Date: 02 Dec 01 - 12:02 PM A more recent thread (in which the same site was cited) was Wyo Woman's request: Help: Instruments You Can Make Yourself??? Within that thread, (if I get this right) at Other Threads is a bunch of clickies to other threads with similar subject - but I missed Capt Bob's!! John |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Dec 01 - 12:36 PM This looks like it might be worth getting into. Thanks for starting this thread, Sorcha - I think Feb 1999 was before I found the Mudcat. (That sounds like a revivalist preacher does't it? "Have you found The Mudcat yet my friends?")
Mind you, my family and friends will probably hate you if this ends with me playing the hurdy gurdy all hours... The price tab on hurdy gurdies has been putting me off so far - but $20 I should be able to afford. |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: Sorcha Date: 02 Dec 01 - 12:42 PM LOL! Since it is the same site Capt. Bob posted I asked the elves to delete it if they wanted. Oh well, I guess lots of us missed or couldn't find the Capt.'s thread, so I guess this one stays.......... |

Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: katlaughing Date: 02 Dec 01 - 06:41 PM Kewl! Have yew found Mudcat yet? Are you truly one of the True Believers of Intonement? Do you sleep with multiple, unattached instruments? Has your spouse left you because there's no room in the bed for them? Come to the Mudcat, brothers and sisters, never will you be lonely, again. Learn the concordances of chords, lay your capos down AND for those special few, those who wield and grind the Hurdy Gurdy of the Temple in the Ancient Fertility Rites of the Bigus Mickus and all, YOU are of the eternal blessed and shall lead by your droning and wheezing. Yea, the very musicless before you shall scatter, while all else shall follow wielding their own Martins, Larrivees, McSpaddens and Ritchies, laying down those chords of Jubilee and rejoicing in the day they found the One, the True, the Only MUDCAT!! Yessir, yessir, yessir!!! Hal-A-Loo-Ya!!! |

Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 02 Dec 01 - 11:21 PM I've kinda wanted a hurdy-gurdy, so I went to the page. Now if I want to make one, I need a copy of the directions, but the info won't print and it when I tried to save it as a txt file, my computer said "This page could not be saved." I also tried Sending it to myself in the form of an e-mail, but that didn't work either. Nothing happened. Moving the computer to the workbench and staring at the screen from time to time is not an option. What am I supposed to do? |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: katlaughing Date: 02 Dec 01 - 11:55 PM leeneia, if you were a member of Mudcat, I could paste the instruction in a Personal Message to you. I was able to highlight and copy with no problem. My email is down right now, or I could email it to you, if I had your addy. I am reluctant to post the plans here as I don't think it would be good etiquette. Sorry, maybe move the workbench over to the computer?**BG** Oh, also, you needn't save it to a txt file to print. You should be able to choose print and just have it print out directly from the page as you view it. Hope this helps, kat |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Dec 01 - 06:59 AM "This page cannot be saved" That should be a warning to us all. I haven't yet been able to make sense of those diagrams on the site, made up of x's and + and so foirth. I'm suyre it's very starightforward if your mind works that way, I just find it glazes over. But I've bookmnarked it and will persevere. |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 03 Dec 01 - 11:17 AM Thank you, katlaughing. The one technique I forgot is the good old ctrl+C. To McGrath: I think that if you print the diagrams and draw in the lines that all will be much clearer. Use a Universal Graphite I/O device (pencil) or even colored pencils. |
Subject: RE: $20 HurdyGurdy & Fun Homemade Instrumeme From: Mr Red Date: 03 Dec 01 - 06:40 PM Phil Beer (Show of Hands) says - the difference between a(n) Hurdy Gurdy and a Buzz Saw is vibrato. When you can fiddle like him I guess you can tell the jokes! Now to find out how to make a triangle from fencing steel..... |
