Subject: RE: Lyr Add: I'm Gonna Walk Around In Jordan From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 03 Dec 01 - 07:12 PM Just a question here: Is Jordan spelled Jerdan in this particular song? It's pronounced that way in the South, but I've never seen it spelled that way. |

My wife's family has a story that the pronunciation came from the Jourdain (or Jourdan) family, owners of plantations and several businesses in the South during the 19th Century. Apparently they pronounced their name Jerdan rather than the French way. I'm not sure anyone knows for certain what the origin is. |
