Schielhallion was recorded by a folk group from Edinburgh Called "North Sea Gas" on a CD called ? You've Guessed "Schielhallion" Their website is http://schuerkamp.de/nsg There is no link to the lyrics of that one from their web site but there is a realplay recording. A good cheery group I have 2 of their CD's but unfortunately not this one. I quote from their web site "Schiehallion is a mountain in the very center of Scotland. Because of its conical shape "Drinking to the Back of Schiehallion" is considered a toast to ALL of Scotland. Have fun! " Hope this helps you Kenny B

lyrics as requested; don't know if they will be formatted properly.

Schiehallion

1.
Come charge up your glasses and let's drink a toast
To the bold Scottish heroes and the proud Scottish host
To the battles we've won and the few that we've lost
Here's a health tae the back o' Schiehallion

Chorus:
Schiehallion, Schiehallion, I hear your voice calling
Across the Great Glen to the coast of Argyll
To the Lowlands, the Highlands
The Borders, the Islands
Let's drink tae the back o' Schiehallion

2.
The bluebell o' Scotland is hanging her head
And the lion once rampant is lying like dead
They grieve for the country whose courage has fled
Far awa' tae the back o' Schiehallion

3.
God speed the day when the Scots shall awake
The fetters of England tae crack and tae break
And stand by their freedom their birth right tae take
Here's a health tae the back o' Schiehallion
Line Breaks <br> added.
-Joe Offer-

I was sure I had it ... it's also been recorded by Glasgow duo Gaberlunzie though I'm not sure that recording is still available. See Gaberlunzie. There is also a website with a song list but I'm not sure it has lyrics.

Gaberlunzie are NOT a Glasgow duo; I believe they both live in Perthshire, just a few tens of miles up the road from me.

Thank you kynnebextra@lineout.net for your help with Schiehallion. I just love Scotland and return every year, sometimes two times. Often I stay with friends in Aberfoyle or in the Highlands, Newtonmore. I have heard North Sea Gas singing. I think they are very good. What do you think? kerstin.lo@telia.com Kerstin

This was recorded by Gaberlunzie. Gordon Menzies and Robin Watson were policemen in Glasgow, then thry resigned and went to playing music. Gordon lives in Milnathort, just north of Kinross. BTW, Gordon wrote this one. He is the guy who set up my tour of Scotland 11 years ago.

Schielhallion was written and recorded by Gordon Menzies of Gaberlunzie as stated before. Obviously a good song if somebody else records it ie North Sea Gas. Both their websites are worth a visit. When you are in Scoland the next time drop me an Email If you are interested in visiting folk clubs within 20 miles of Aberfoyle, the Stirling folk Club is the nearest followed by Dunfermline and Milton of Campsie, all very friendly and interesting. Scottish Folkmusic venues are well advertised on the Alba Music&Clubs and the Fife Folk Clubs sites. I holpe you enjoy your next visit Kenny B

Susanne, the Stirling club is alive and well at the Terraces, I'll be playing there on Monday night, with your good friends Ian and Avril, at the club's christmas party with the Govan Spoonful.
The club continues to be one of scotland's best, recently promoting a concert with Tom Paxton. Isobel and Chas continue to front a hard working committee.
love, john.

Hi Kynnebextra@Lineone.net Kenny B

I have tried to send you an e-mail, but no chance, the mails came back. So please make me happy again. Send me your address and we can keep in touch, until I am back in Bonnie Scotland. It would be very funny to visit a club, and it was nice of you to give me that offer. I hope you can understand my English. A big hug! Kerstin kerstin.lo@telia.com

Gordon Menzies abides in Carnbo, Kinross. I have recently had the pleasure of corresponding with him. He was most cordial and sent me an autographed copy of the Poem "The Auld Man of Benarty" that he penned.

Cheers!

Dagan

Schiehallion is indeed a mountain in Perthshire, it is said that if you take a map of Scotland and draw two diagonal lines, the point where they meet is Schiehallion, making it the dead centre of Scotland.
Therefore, drinking a health to the back of Schiehallion is drinking a toast to Scotland.
