Subject: RE: Hello Mudcat From: Fortunato Date: 07 Dec 01 - 08:42 AM Welcome Mr. Slim. "Every Day I have the Blues"; "Steady Rolling Blues"; great stuff. Are you a piano player like your man, Chatman? I never saw Memphis Slim. Now I did know slightly a relative of his, Sam Chatmon, sometimes of the Mississippi Sheiks, and got to know him a bit at the National Folk Festival back in the mid-seventies. Little bitty man with a long beard. Loud singer, though, for his size. Had a fondness for Jack Daniels and women as I remember. We got along fine. See, until I saw Sam I thought "Sittin' on Top of the World" was a bluegrass, Bill Monroe song! I am occasionally wrong. ANYway welcome to the 'cat. Theres hundreds of years of accumulated musical knowledge floating around here. You can't spit without hitting a jackleg ethnomusicologist or proctologist (sorry 'spaw). Regards, Fortunato |

Subject: RE: Hello Mudcat From: GUEST Date: 07 Dec 01 - 10:00 AM BOB....did you think of that yourself? I'm pleasantly surprised....you seem like a real idiot otherwise, but that line was damn good |

Subject: RE: Hello Mudcat From: Memphis Slimfast Date: 07 Dec 01 - 10:13 AM Fortunato, I hack around a bit on the piano, but I'm really a guitarist. There is some dispute as to whether Sam Chatman and Memphis Slim (Peter Chatman) were actually related. When asked, Memphis Slim said they were not. I met Sam a few times at folk festivals in the late-60s or early-70s. I met Memphis Slim a few times too. Slim |

Subject: RE: Hello Mudcat From: GUEST,Gusty Date: 07 Dec 01 - 01:22 PM Now you've got GUEST trying to screw up welcome threads for your new members, making them a less positive experience than they would otherwise be. I'm not for utter censorship or exclusion of non-member posts, and I ain't no computer geek (and I don't use that term in a derogatory way), so excuse me if this is a stupid question. Is there any way to prevent non-members from posting to specific threads, such as this one, where the atmosphere should be friendly and pleasant? |
