Subject: RE: THE WATER'S SO COLD From: Jerry Friedman Date: 03 Mar 98 - 01:40 PM Speaking of which, the tune I heard when I saw this title was "The Water is Wide":
The water is cold; I will not swim over, |

Subject: RE: THE WATER'S SO COLD From: Bob Landry Date: 01 Mar 98 - 07:22 PM I know nothing about a song, but the title reminds of me of a joke I heard in Halifax. Seems two sailors had been drinking at the tavern and decided to walk home. They lived on the other side of the harbour and had to walk across the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge. Seems nature called when they were halfway across and since there was no traffic at the time, they decided to aim over the side. Joe says, "Geez, this water is cold", and Mike replied, "Yes, and deep, too!" Newfoundlander. Please do a search in the forum for a thread called Aunt Martha's Sheep. If you have the words, I'd appreciate it if you could post the lyrics to either or both of the two sequels to that Dick Nolan classic. Thanks |
Subject: RE: THE WATER'S SO COLD From: Bruce O. Date: 01 Mar 98 - 05:47 PM Is this by any chance a version of an Irish song "Willie Leonard, or The Lake of Cool Finn/Shilin"? See Laws Q33 in DT for a version. |
Subject: RE: THE WATER'S SO COLD From: NEWFOUNDLANDER Date: 01 Mar 98 - 05:00 PM Another line goes something like this. The light from the shore is fast growing dim. The water's so cold I can't hardly swim. I've done a lot of searching for this song, but can't seem to find it. Hope someone can help. |
