Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: DancingMom Date: 12 Dec 01 - 08:33 PM My brother sent me a card that I liked a lot... Care deeply. Give freely. Think kindly. Act gently, and be at peace...for this is the spirit of Christmas. May your holidays be filled with all the things that matter most. Well... I thought it was cool! Happy holidays everybody. Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: Cappuccino Date: 12 Dec 01 - 03:31 AM I was sitting in a little church in a Scots fishing village some years ago, watching Johnny Cash record a Christmas Special with the local schoolkids' choir (he took fifteen takes and make a mistake in every one.... they got it right every single time!) I was sitting next to an American lady who said 'I love Christmas specials - we have so many in America, we have to start screening them in November to get them all in!' As they say in Scotland about New Year: have a happy one when it arrives. - Ian B |

Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Dec 01 - 08:19 PM It's season's - meaning pertaining to the season rather than belonging to it.
Logically we should say "season's greeting" all the year round, since it's always some season or other. Like saying "good day" every day, not saving it for Christmas.
Happy Winter then, everyone. And I'll save Happy Christmas for a few more days. |
Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: nutty Date: 10 Dec 01 - 07:51 PM Technically ,joe ,I suppose the correct version should be SEASONAL GREETINGS as a season cannot greet... *BG* But whatever it is I would like to say............ |

Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: Jack the Sailor Date: 10 Dec 01 - 05:31 PM Greetings of all the seasons Seasons' greetings Greetings of the holiday season Season's greetings "Seasons" and "Greetings" together with no explicit relationship between the words and improper capitalization of the second word....In other words, the way the greeting card makers do it, cause it looks good:
Seasons GreetingsMerry Christmas Banjo-flower, Merry Christmas Joe. |
Subject: RE: BS: season;s greetings From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Dec 01 - 05:03 PM Merry Christmas to you, Gerry! Did you use a semicolon in the thread title to avoid criticism from the Apostrophe Geeks? I confess that I'm kind of an apostrophe geek, too - and I'm never quite sure is there is supposed to be one in Seasons Greetings/Season's Greetings/Seasons' GreetingsWhatever is the appropriate and politically correct think to say, I extend it heartily to you. -Joe Offer- |
