Hello, I am looking for a song that my parents used to love. I have an old reel with the song on it, but it is in very bad shape.

In a DEEP voice, the lines: "17, and he was one year more, 17, and he the girl adored, 17"

Followed by the first line: "She was only 17, and he was 1 year more..."

It is a story of love, challenge, and making it against the odds.

If anyone has any ideas or tips on who sang the song, or where I might find a copy of it, please reply to me.

I'm trying to find out who this song is by. It's kind of an instrumental. There's not many lyrics in it. It really just came out awhile ago. It's either sunshine, or sunchimes. I think, that's the name of the song. Thanks a bunch.

I've been looking for this song for 11 years! Its a strong throaty sorta country song by a female artist. Its a song about reflecting back over her relationship and summing it up should it ever end. The refrain sums it up as a whole lot of sunshine and "just a little bit of rain". I found the song lyrics I was looking for, through the entry by Joe Offer. I guess The Mudcat can take credit, rather indirectly. The sample words I quoted were close but not exact. Cowpie found a song by Hank Williams titled:- "WEDDING BELLS" which is it.

Scroll up the thread and read Alison's message of June 10 and see how it was ignored.
Something like a virus here; new people giving their e-mail addresses, resurrecting old overly-general threads from the archives and posting fresh requests on them. This one is the third I've seen this week. Probably a subversive campaign to get Mudcat to show further threadequette instructions on screen. Has anyone here e-mailed "bfleming"?

What happens is, that a newbie sees this thread title and quite logically thinks that this is the tread to use when looking for a song. So they just go straight to the end of the thread without reading all the messages which don't interest them.

It's not until AFTER they get hooked, or smitten with the Mudcat disease, that they read every message in every thread.

So, Welcome Aboard! Bfemming, we're glad to have you. But, you will get quicker results if you start a new thread and include the name of the song in the thread title.

OK, Catsp..Like I have said before, I have a prediliction for skipping through the entire thread, reading the last couple posts, then responding in a kind of an off-the-cuff fashion. As a penance I vow to listen to the entire September Morn album by the great Neil Diamond.

Re; the Brazilian coke. Probably need an opener, as they don't have twist-off technology in Brazil yet. Course after the first bottle, you could probably just use yer teeth.

Bert, but the incredible thing is that Bfleming and a couple of others this week pulled threads of this nature out of the archives. This thread was dormant from Nov 1998 until March this year. And I wasn't so amazed that Bfleming hadn't heeded the notice of June 10, but neither did Le Ann on Jun 11. I refer you also to Bill's advice/complaint of July 18 and another song request posted on 20 July!

I'm afraid that the song you are asking for is about 100 years too young for me to know it, but I'm sure that someone here will be avle to point you to a source. The International Lyric server used to be the place but I understand it has been shut down by the Vatican or someone.

In return would you be able to let us in on the details of how you found this thread? I've tried experimenting with various search engines but so far only found the Mudcat home page, and that usually given under a "Folk and Blues" heading (which is correct). As you may have gathered several ancient and generic threads have been resurrected recently and we are all puzzled as to how they have been found.

Threads: Messages to this discussion group are stored in a realtional database using a unique "thread" identifier as primary key. This has numerous advantages over the storage format used by "newsgroups"; including the ability to add to an existing thread but change the heading, view all posts to a given thread at once, fully invert the file to make them searchable by word, etc. etc. The term Thread refers to the effect of all messages being strung together. Hope that helps.

It was a challenge but I retraced my web site tracks and I think this is what I did- Lycospro.lycos.com from there entered"where can I find lyrics" and on page 10 of sites found the site Trying To Find This Song was listed and I clicked it up- So, naturally the next thing I did was submitted the song and that was it. Hope this helps, but the "thread" is basically listed as a site to retrieve.

Charles, the song you are looking for might be called "When I was 17" ( It was a very good year). I believe it was done by the Kingston Trio somewhere around 1963. I could be wrong on all counts. Could be the Brothers Four and give or take a year.
