Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: vectis Date: 30 Dec 01 - 07:58 PM She'll never be able to see the wooden floors. They'll be covered with snorkling morris dancers doing hog roasts in the inflatable moats whilst playing kazoos. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Dead Horse Date: 30 Dec 01 - 06:04 AM Listen you guys, all this talk of walking around aimlessly in the nuddies while turning things on, has got the missus in a bit of a fluster. I've had to see to her twice now, and it's more than a shantman can bear. No more, please. And while we're on the subject, the second thing she looks for on entering a room full of folkies (the first is food!!!) are banjo players and wooden floors. So watch out. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Gareth Date: 29 Dec 01 - 04:21 PM Refresh |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Steve Parkes Date: 21 Dec 01 - 04:31 AM Thanks Jock. In fact, I've already seen to that necessary excercise, which may be why the radiators feel so hot! Steve |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: John MacKenzie Date: 20 Dec 01 - 03:51 PM The central heating is very easy, just follow these instructions.1.Use a knife to split the foil. 2. Grasp it firmly by the neck, and, holding the top in the other hand 3.Twist and pull until after a slight squeak followed by a popping sound, the odour of peat will fill your nostrils. 4.Obtain one small glass, half fill it and give it to your partner. 5. Insert the neck of said object in your mouth, and inhale deeply. After awhile you won't feel the cold, or anything else.*BAG*... Big alchoholic grin. Hope the new home is filled with joy. Failte.....Jock |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Steve Parkes Date: 20 Dec 01 - 11:46 AM Thanks Roger--but unless I can figure out how to work the central heating, we'll be having a house cooling! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 20 Dec 01 - 11:06 AM You're definitely a man after me own heart,Steve: unpacking the records and the kazoo before the curtains! RtS (happy housewarming) |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Steve Parkes Date: 20 Dec 01 - 10:54 AM Hey folks--I'm back!! Noreen, I'll be happy to serenade you with lullabies, if I can get the usual writen permission in triplicate from Mrs Parkes. (Talking of oysters, Sue & I had a dozen on the night we were wed. Only four of them worked.) The move went OK ... eventually. I nearly was buried under a pile of 78s! (But more Layton & Johnson and Peter Dawson than Paul Robeson.) Got up this morning in my new house (yes, it was me wandering around starkers putting lights on at random, forgetting there weren't any curtains up) and found the mice had gnawed holes in the membrane of my kazoo; I think there's a Christams carol lurking in there somewhere! Steve |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 20 Dec 01 - 05:06 AM I'm looking forward to the legendary Geoff the Duck's kazoo & banjo duets (and Steve Parkes' promised "moving" imitation). Is this your instrument, Geoff?Click here for duck kazoo RtS (building up the embouchure with alcohol rub) |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: MudGuard Date: 20 Dec 01 - 03:45 AM Dead Horse, I don't know about you but I will bring my own balls - though I'd never use them for playing snooker, it would be too painfull ;-) Apropos painful: calling it the pool room might lead to serious injuries for the skinny dippers... Lanfranc, just sleep at the terminal point of your nightly forays - then you do not even have to get up to do what you have to do at that time of night. Snoring there would also be no problem... |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Dec 01 - 09:16 PM Or was that Clementine?? LTS |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Dec 01 - 09:16 PM See - nothing about Rhondda's in there was there? Mind you, nothing about Jordan either!! LTS |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Dead Horse Date: 19 Dec 01 - 08:20 PM As to the snooker table, do we have to supply our own balls? And I'm not playing with god again, I'm sure he cheated last time when he had a break of 148! The triangle might come in usefull for Cajun music, though. On second thoughts, perhaps we should call it the *pool room*, that would keep the skinny dippers out of sight!!! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Lanfranc Date: 19 Dec 01 - 06:55 PM Is Stony Stratford really ready for this? I am torn between my usual B&B cop-out and savouring the aforementioned facilities. But ..... I take up a lot of room and I snore and I have age-related requirements that involve frequent nocturnal forays. My night sight is dreadful and I trip over things. Perhaps I should just stay at home and join in on PalTalk! Perhaps I could sleep on the snooker table. Alan |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Noreen Date: 19 Dec 01 - 06:31 PM Thank you Julie, I thought Steve must have gone to look through his collection of Paul Robeson 78s, and they'd fallen on him... hope they survive the move! Noreen movinghouseon4thJanuary |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: lady penelope Date: 19 Dec 01 - 04:42 PM Can we have sub titles please? Or at least phonetic spelling. I'll have to work up some spit for this ( I've got a cold at the moment, this may not be pretty!). Dai has obviously been exposed to Micca's hip flask before, hence the abstinance! TTFN M'Lady P. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Gareth Date: 19 Dec 01 - 02:25 PM OK LtS we'll do this the hard way !!!!
Wele'n sefyll rhwng y myrtwydd Gwyn a gwridog, hardd Ei bryd! Ar ddeng mil y mae'n rhagori O wrthddrychau penna'r byd ; Ffrind pechadur! Dyma'r llywydd ar y mor 3. Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: JudeL Date: 19 Dec 01 - 11:40 AM Don't do it Dai .... don't drink from Micca's hip flask ... unless you're feeling very brave ... you never know what he's got in it .... admittedly it's always very interesting.. it's just that sometimes when you try to stand up you discover your legs no longer work and you think you must have woken up with someone else's head cos the one you woke up with doesn't seem to fit! Meanwhile Micca, when are you going to come visit us again? Paul has an 18 year old and a 21 year old I'm sure you'd like to be introduced to, strathisla and craggenmore. Jude |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Julie B Date: 19 Dec 01 - 07:32 AM Noreen, Re: "Steve Parkes has offered to serenade me with lullabyes The Mudcat silence from Steve today/tomorrow is due to the fact that he's trying to move house at the moment. Everything was all packed and loaded yesterday, but the money from the buyer was apparently stuck somewhere, and so completion got delayed a day. Finger's crossed Steve will be back online tomorrow! Julie |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 19 Dec 01 - 06:52 AM I am above such temptations. Trouble me no further. My purity and vigilance are and must remain beyond reproach. Dai "thou shalt not" Phillips |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Micca Date: 19 Dec 01 - 06:44 AM Dai, would a liberal application of alcoholic beverages ease your troubles from arranging this? I have this hip flask....... fulf of interesting stuff... try it ..you'll like it... |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 19 Dec 01 - 06:04 AM The usual 12.5% plus expenses, naturally. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Noreen Date: 19 Dec 01 - 05:36 AM What is your arrangement fee, Dai? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 19 Dec 01 - 04:30 AM I have *ahem* 'inspected the facilities' at York House, havign only ever been in the downstairs. Mr. Adams kindly gave me a guided tour and discussed options. What he proposes is to sign the whole building, all 3 floors of neo-classical glory (albeit substantially 'modernised' in the 1960s) to us for the weekend, with areas being openable on request. Facilities available which I wasn't aware of include a certain amount of computer use (for posting bulletins for non-attenders, and resolving lyric disputes) and a snooker table, for god's sake. As I mentioned somewhere else, there is a soundproof room for music after the PEL stops, with a loft above which could be suitable as a quiet sleeping area. The main room, on the ground floor, is very large, there are various bits of squashy furniture which we can arrange to make it a comfortable loungy sort of place should we wish. Cost is being discussed even as we speak, I'll post more when I get details. Now, any questions? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Micca Date: 18 Dec 01 - 08:48 PM Snuffy, get Liz , me and Morty and Lady P together at Stony, we are seasoned performers of this to that tune.. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: Snuffy Date: 18 Dec 01 - 07:59 PM I can't persuade the Shakespeare Morris Men that Clementine does not fit Cwm Rhondda but does fit perfectly to Austria (Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken/Deutschland Über Alles). The beginnings of both tunes are too similar, and they always go off into the wrong one! Bastards. WassaiL! V |

Or have you forgotten your offer so soon? *grin* Noreen |

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: alanww Date: 17 Dec 01 - 11:43 AM Bideford sounds nice! It has a cracking folk club at the Joiners Arms behind the Panier Market. Is that where you've fixed it for? I will be going on their weekend away to Boscastle YH in March. But I'm not so good at the clogging, so perhaps I'll give it a miss in early February! Kind friends and companions come join me in rhyme ... |

Or alternatively please bring boards as the floor is apparently waxed ;-) |

Second thread: Stony Stratford Gathering 8/9/10 Feb 2002
Third (and most recent) thread:Son of Stony Stratford The hog roast will be outdoors near the inflatable moat, so the skinnydippers can warm themselves, no? Any spare melodeons to fuel the fire? Liz? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: MudGuard Date: 17 Dec 01 - 06:28 AM Why? Didn't we decide to do the roast over our indoor camp fire? Thanks for all your preparation work - I am looking forward to February! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: the nightmare continues From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 17 Dec 01 - 06:14 AM I will provide florid descriptions of the facilities on Wednesday. I know that the cooker is merely domestic, so if anybody was thinking of doing a hog roast you may need to think again ;-) |
