Subject: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Bernard Date: 19 Dec 01 - 04:44 PM If you're around Manchester this Sunday (23rd), why not call in to the Open Door Folk Club Christmas 'Do'? We've got butties!! |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Bernard Date: 22 Dec 01 - 06:09 PM Refresh... |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: katlaughing Date: 23 Dec 01 - 02:33 AM Okay, I'll bite. Bernard, what are butties? It sounds as though you'll all either be baring your bums and knocking about or you'll have cute little pygmy goats butting into everyone!**BG** Have a good DO, either way! kat |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Noreen Date: 23 Dec 01 - 05:00 AM Kat, you obviously missed the previous mudcat exposition on bacon butties...! Butties are sandwiches, and bacon butties are one of the greatest inventions of the modern world. Bernard, thanks for the invite, but I'd only be a disruptive influence at the moment as I have a horrible tickly cough and wouldn't be able to sing anyway. :0( Have a lovely time, and have a butty for me! |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Harry Basnett Date: 23 Dec 01 - 07:44 AM Just finished a bacon butty this very moment......sorry to hear about the nasty tickly cough, Noreen...hope it doesn't spoil your Christmas! As Bernard said...come one, come all but if you can't make it I'd like to wish you all a happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year!! All the best... Harry. |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Bernard Date: 23 Dec 01 - 01:02 PM Ticklycough? Wasn't he a Russian composer?! ;o) All the Bury Vest to those who can't make it - looking forward to all those butties! Technically, a 'butty' is a kind of sandwich, but the difference is that the bread is folded, not cut... who cares, as long as they're edible?! Butty also is Lancashire dialect (and others) for 'friend', hence the American 'buddy'. It's also a barge (et al) towed behind another... this is getting too involved, I'll shurrup! Be there, or... be somewhere else! |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: katlaughing Date: 23 Dec 01 - 01:22 PM Thanks!! |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Guessed Date: 24 Dec 01 - 05:48 AM Bernard tut tut a butty or butty boat is not a barge but a narrow boat (sans engine as you said) technically barges are wider than 7 feet. Narrow boats, worked by boaters (not bargees) floated along our narrow canal system. There were a few barges in the Wolverhampton/Dudley area that were confined to the bits of the canal there that didn't have tight corners or locks. AFAIK barges on bigger canals were called barges unless they were part of a Tom Pudding (10 or more coal tubs pushed legthwise by a tug - on the Aire & Calder) As they invariably had no cover one could say they were they were "open door" thread creep? what thread creep? |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: John J Date: 24 Dec 01 - 06:28 AM As a lovely alternative to bacon butties (but still not as good) try Manx kipper butties, with toast & marmalade and a huge pot of Yorkshire (Gold) tea. I've just got back from Bury market with a huge capon for tomorrow's blow out, and a stack of kippers for me! Yummie! Merry Christmas all. JJ |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Harry Basnett Date: 24 Dec 01 - 06:59 AM AAAaaaarrrggghhh!!!!!! Enough of butties....enough I say!!! |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Noreen Date: 24 Dec 01 - 08:53 AM JJ- and you didn't drop in on me while you were in Bury? (I would have only given you my cold *sniff*). Well, Harry, how did the do go? Noreen |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: 8_Pints Date: 24 Dec 01 - 09:08 AM Sorry we missed it! Hope everyone had a festive time. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to everyone. Bob & Sue vG |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: Harry Basnett Date: 25 Dec 01 - 08:02 AM It went very well, thank you, kind kitties.......Bernard put on a great, festive show. Anyone that feels up to it is more than welcome to come to Pauline's Birthday Bash on December 30th. No admission charge, Stanley Accrington and a buffet supper...treat it as a rehearsal for New Years Eve. Come on...help us celebrate...we're cuddly and never bite! Lots of Love Harry & Sara. |
Subject: RE: Open Door Christmas 'Do' From: John J at home Date: 25 Dec 01 - 08:11 AM Noreen, it was a bit early in the day. I was at the market before it opened, and on my way home by 9.15am to beat the Trafford Centre car park on the M60. Anyway, I've got my own cold! I'll give you a buzz. John |
