Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hi Dee Ho or Maybe Hidi Hidi Ho From: Gary T Date: 21 Dec 01 - 11:32 AM As far as I know, "Hidi Hidi Ho" is not a song in itself, but just Cab Calloway's addition to his rendition of "Minnie the Moocher." His version includes his singing the "Hidi hidi ho," etc. after a few verses of "Minnie." With an audience, it's typically done as a call and response, with Cab continuously increasing the speed and complexity of these nonsense syllables to a rapid scat that the audience has no hope of repeating back, as shown in the film "The Blues Brothers." |

A favorite story: Groucho Marx had two contestants on his quiz show, You Bet Your Life, both named Heidi and after they George Fenneman introduced them, Groucho asked, "Which one of you is Heidi?" They both said they were Heidi and Groucho responded, "Okay, I'll call you Heidi-Hi and I'll call you Heidi-Ho, and you can call me Cab Calloway." Spaw |
Subject: Minnie the Moocher vs. Sister Aimee? From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Dec 01 - 09:24 PM Roger of Baltimore posted the lyrics to "Minnie the Moocher" here (click). Is that true, that the song predates Cab Calloway? Seems to me, there's a pretty close relationship between this song and the Ballad of Aimee McPherson. I think Calloway also recorded "Ballad of Aimee," if I recall correctly. -Joe Offer- Thread #3648 Message #39401 Posted By: Roger Himler 25-Sep-98 - 07:02 PM Thread Name: Moonshine Songs Subject: Lyr Add: MINNIE THE MOOCHER^^
I think you're looking for Minnie the Moocher Seed. Here are lyrics. Not so drug involved, but, hey, before the 60's it was a verboten subject. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hi Dee Ho or Maybe Hidi Hidi Ho From: GUEST,Steve Date: 23 Dec 01 - 04:51 PM here and gone, Calloway is right, however I think Dave Van Ronk did a version of it on the Electra or maybe Folkways label back in the 60's you can check the record at CD-Now .com you probably get better results looking at each Van Ronk seperately, but I know it was in the 60's |
