Different altogether. 3 Ships has words, too. Look at JC's tunefinder for Christmas Day--it's probably there and you can listen to the MIDI.

I don't know this tune. Is this another title for "I Saw Three Ships" ("I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas day in the morning"), or a different song?

Thanks Malcolm and Sorcha. I have to get some Dick Gaughan into my collection. Awesome guitarist, a songeriter of great political sensibility, I just don't seem to find time to listen to the CD's that I have, without adding more.

Christmas Day Ida Mornin' is a great "listening tune". Glad to know the attribution--usally I don't even know the names of the tunes that I play.

Christmas Day Ida Mornin' (and other spellings) is a Shetland "listening tune" from the repertoire of John Stickle of Unst; it was noted from him and subsequently published by Patrich Shuldham Shaw.  It is possible that it was written by John's ancestor, Friedemann Stickle, a renowned fiddler born in the late 18th century, who was paid to play it each Christmas morning at the house of the local laird.  Like most fiddle tunes, it doesn't appear ever to have been a song, though Tom Anderson reckoned that you could hear the title in the ending of the tune.

Having said that, Dick Gaughan's band Five Hand Reel set a text of The Knight and the Shepherd's Daughter to the first part of the tune back in the 1970s, which worked quite well.

It's a great Scottish tune that I've been playing for years, and I've just recently wondered if there are lyrics to go with it. Anyone know 'em?

Not to nit-pick, but I've heard the title variously as Christmas Day i'da Morning, Christmas Day in da Morning and Christmas Day in the Morning. Thanks
