Hello, folk music lovers. A friend asked me to find the source of a song with the lyric "You can't tell the depth of a well from the length of the handle on the pump." Coming up zeros on my Net search, I thought I would post a request here- it sounds folkish, altho it might of course not be. Thanks in advance from both of us.

YOU CAN'T TELL THE DEPTH OF THE WELL (excerpt, from samples)
Johnny Bond, 1947

You can't tell the depth of the well
By the length of the handle on the pump,
So, baby, how can you tell about me?
You can't tell the sound of the bell
By the length of the steeple on the hill,
So, baby,....

[Recorded by Louis Prima, Sy Oliver & His Orchestra, Keely Smith]
