If you're planning a trip to Oz, you may find my recent thread "5-String Banjo in Oz" worth reviewing. We had lots of questions to ask before I and my wife arrived there, and once again we found Mudcatters to be an invaluable resource. With their help we were able to identify likely traditional style music sessions, individuals to contact, resources to take advantage of, wildlife to avoid, many of which we could never hope to find in standard guide books. Bob Bolton deserves special thanks for his intrepid follow-up efforts to confirm the ever-changing venues, dates, and format which could frustrate folks from away.

This is not a "self-promotion" thread but more of an attempt to illustrate how other Mudcatters might better plan their forays to far away places. We certainly had a great time.

And it's good to have Mr. N back in one piece, and merrily picking his banjo at the recent "Chantey-Sing" up here in Portland, Maine. I got there a little late so missed the major "After-Action Report" of the journey, but picked up a few annecdotal tidbits of the adventure as we went along.

Although "Ozzie-Land" is not on the top of our list of places we'd like to visit had we the time & resources (Scotland, Ireland, and stangely enough Israel occupying those positions), there is little doubt that it one of the most "interesting" places on this old Planet. Despite our skepticism of the political regime currently in power down there, the people, culture, and wildlife "down under" strike me as no less than utterly facinating. Interaction with "Ozzie" Mudcatters is universally enjoyed and often quite edifying.
