Enter blue tail fly in Lyrics and Knowledge Search and lots will come up. Has the line Jimmie crack corn. No give me craked(?) corn (genetically modified?). Sung in?? - the old minstrel shows.

American Memory has copies of Rose of Alabama, published by Masran in the 19th century, essentially the same as the version in the DT. Author(?) and date (1846) given in thread 10629: Rose of Alabama

Guest: we have an excellent search facility at the top of the page, but we're also helpful, try Jim Crack Corn if it's not precisely what you want then there are cross references at that point

Here's a copy of the song which I found at [http://fly.hiwaay.net/~dsmart/rose.html]. It's not exactly the same version as I perform, but it's a good one.
ROSE OF ALABAMY

1. Away from Mississippi's vale,
With my ol' hat there for a sail,
I crossed upon a cotton bale,
To Rose of Alabamy.

Chorus: Oh brown Rosie,
Rose of Alabamy.
A sweet tobacco posey
Is my Rose of Alabamy.
A sweet tobacco posey
Is my Rose of Alabamy.

2. I landed on the far sand bank,
I sat upon the hollow plank,
And there I made the banjo twank,
For Rose of Alabamy.

3. Oh, arter d'rectly by and by,
The moon rose white as Rosie's eye,
Den like a young coon out so sly,
Stole Rose of Alabamy.

4. I said sit down just where you please.
Upon my lap she took her ease.
"It's good to go upon the knees,"
Said Rose of Alabamy.

5. The river rose; the cricket sang,
The lightnin' bug did flash his wing,
Den like a rope my arms I fling,
'Round Rose of Alabamy.

6. We hugged how long I cannot tell.
My Rosie seemed to like it well.
My banjo in the river fell.
Oh Rose of Alabamy.

7. Like alligator after prey,
I jump in but it float away,
And all the while it seem to say,
"Oh Rose of Alabamy."

8. Now every night come rain or shower,
I hunt that banjo for an hour;
And see my sweet tobacco flower,
Oh Rose of Alabamy.

9. Oh fare thee well you belles of Spain,
And fare thee well to Liza Jane,
Your charms will all be put to shame,
By Rose of Alabamy.
^^
