Halló all, I got a thought? Here In Iceland we chose the men and the woman of the year. The person has done something good or just the person is great or for what ever other reason .

So how about the Mudcatter of the year?? Any thought´s How about telling the name and why you chose him or her.

There are many folks out there witch has done some many things, as fighting there healt and so on.

Okei, I will start and say this, Max will get my point, becouse for his strong will to hold Mudcat going, I know this is not easy for him and I know he get´s some help, so he and his crew has my vote. I hope that I do not hurt anyone by this thread. All the best skarpi Iceland.

Well, I can't argue with Max, who has the best-dented balls in town and uses them to keep this place running out of the bigness of his heart.

But I wouldn't argue with a few others who have provided deep research and wisdom on musical and other topics. And I could even vote for Spaw as the most extroverted, or Morticia for accepting the great burden of RtS' responsibilities at the NYCFTTS, or Little Hack for being the most recondite aesthete in cyberspace, or to Peter T. for being the best writer in cyberspace, or to Jen Ellen for being the most beautiful ...HEY!! put down those frying pans!!! Don't shoot!!! (Ducks and exits rapidly pursued by various kitchen implements, makeup containers, strange-shaped shoes, and heavy glass objects of no possible utility...)

LOL, kendall! If Max is out of the running because he is WebMaster, I think I vote for Pene Azul/Jeff. He always seems to be where he is needed most. 1st Runner Up would have to be Joe Offer.

Captain Indecisive here.

Max would get it every year, and he IS Mudcat, so I don't think it's legal to nominate him. Pene Azul has done more for Mudcat and helped more folks than perhaps we realise. But again, what he does is FOR Mudcat, not IN Mudcat.

There are a number of people here who always stand out in my mind because of various things including knowledge, common sense, ability, wit, willingness to help folks, and the way they can touch our hearts. I would never want to pick just one.

I think we need to set the criteria more clearly before any canvassing. The Time Man of the Year / Person of the Year is awarded for great influence on the affairs of the world not necessarily for the good. It was even given one year to the personal computer. Can we nominate ragtime, then?

Or do we want the most good inflluence, and excluding Max, Joe and clones and elves as staff (voluntary)? Maybe we need a series of them, like high school class elections -- Most Uplifting, Most Inscrutable, Most Scrutable, Best Curmudgeon, Best Trollhunter, and so on... :>)

I vote for Pene too. Jeff has done so much behind the scenes work and we need to recognize those efforts......Right now, I'd say that Max could not get by without him and the place would be a wreck. Max has enough going on in getting a restart on his own life and it's to his credit to have ever found a friend like Jeff. JEFF....You have my sincerest thanks and my permission to kick Max in the balls at any time.

I'm with Amos though, we also need some categories.......

Well, Gareth recently demonstrated his prowess at inventing the mechanism needed to poll Mudcatters in his recent "Captions" contest. Maybe we could ask him to come up with a list of categories and candidates and impose on him to implement a page with drop-down lists of candidates for each category.

I'd include Funniest, Most Compassionate, Most Helpful, Most Erudite Musically, Most Entertaining, Most Pompous, strike that, I think I won it, and maybe Most Interesting Posts. I coud think of a few more but my free time is evaporating madly.

See the "What have you learned this year" thread for my previous nomination of Skarpi. By the way, my nomination of Skarpi came just 24 minutes BEFORE Skarpi began this thread. So I'd like to doubly nominate Skarpi for loosing weight and getting healthy AND for suggesting the idea of a Muddcatter of the Year in a new thread. Way to go Skarpi!

Yes - I don't see any major problems in doing a Web nomination site. But I fear that it may be a little late for this to be successfull for this New Year.

Its now 1920 hrs Greenwich Meantime. A quck show of posts over the next hours on yes Go for it, or No drop it.

Proposed format - A webpage to take nominations run for 3 days to allow all to see, followed by a new page for voting on names.

N.B. Max, Joe Pene etc have a right of veto on the proposals if they wish to do so

As a relative newcomer, I don't know who was Mudcatter of the year last year. Joe Offer, Pene Azul et al. must have been named before.

So I nominate Bob Bolton, who (a) is invariably helpful; (b) has no visible ego; (c) is unfailingly courteous, and (d) knows a lot, and shares it.

Boy, I hate to be a party pooper since I'm such a booster of this place, but the whole 'mudcatter of the year' thing troubles me a bit. What makes this site special is it's collective personality. There are people who have offered SO much help, but in threads that guitarists only look at. Same with ballad threads. Same with accordion threads. Same with threads where people are having serious personal difficulties, etc. etc. SO MANY help in so many different ways that may not be apparent to the group as a whole. The overwhelming dynamic is SO positive that the creepiest critics no matter HOW long they've been here, are forced to do their spewing under 'Guest' monikers. That in itself says a LOT for the site's community feel. I certainly won't be voting for individual honors, and I have no idea whether anyone agrees with me, but that's the way I feel.

Skarpi wanted Mudcat men/women of the year.

So Max is out of the race because he is the Mudcat God.

And all the JoeClones are at least Semi-Gods, so they are out of the race as well.

Ok, so lets choose among us mere mortal mudcatters. Did it say men or man? Ok it says men, so I can choose more than one.

Whomever I would choose, many others would be left out. So I simply choose all Mudcatters as Mudcatters of the year.

Btw, Happy New Year! MudGuard

Everyone has won, and all must have prizes!! That's straight out of the Mad hatter's Tea party. Buncha pinko commie treehuggers, you lot!! LOL!! Pantywaist Socialists, that's what!!!

Hey guys -- lighten up and relax. You sound like the kids who break into tears playing Musical Chairs because they missed the fact that the music stopped and forgot to sit down!! I don't think we're all that tender that our "feelings are going to be hurt" over an artifice like this -- a make-believe poll in a make-believe place jointly contrived by very real goodhearted adults (more or less). Bruised your keyboard just thinking about it, huh?

Surely we are tougher than that!!

Saying a heart-felt thanks to helpful, caring mudcatters is all well and good but I don't quite see having a competition. Limited as any family's size is, it would be impossible to choose the 'most' important member of it. How, then, could one name a Mudcatter whose family is so much larger?

Spaw is most likely the closest to reading all the threads/posts- he probably has the clearest idea of what and in which categories individuals post. The rest of us would be grabbing at the wind.
