Subject: heaven forbid--i need a train wreck song From: GUEST,shellbelle101@yahoo.com Date: 31 Dec 01 - 03:43 AM my grandma used to sing two songs when she put us to bed. one was "two little children, a boy and a girl..." which I found in the impressively huge database. the other was about a train wreck where the engineer's daughter is sick, and he speeds up the train to get home to her, but there is a crash, and as he is dying, he realizes that his sick daughter is dead, too and he is meeting her in heaven. it's a nice song. I was just wondering if anybody has heard it, or knows it. I'm from Southern Illinois. It was really suprising to find the 2 little children song. I guess I thought Great Grandma had made it up or something. :) Thanks for any info. Shelley |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: heaven forbid--i need a train wreck From: Amos Date: 31 Dec 01 - 06:09 AM There are a number of similar songs in the DT -- just put "engineer" in the search window and you'll get over fifty songs, a few of which are like the one you describe, but not the exact one. Sorry I can't help with that particular song. A. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: heaven forbid--i need a train wreck From: Snuffy Date: 31 Dec 01 - 06:35 AM I'm not sure if it's any help, but the Digital Tradition database has two possible candidates. THE CHILD OF THE RAILROAD ENGINEER has the sick child, while THE DYING ENGINEER has the train wreck, but I can't find a song with both in. Then there's ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH where the signalman's son is ill, but his daughter (why is she always Nell?) bravely averts the crash. WassaiL! V |
