while watching 'Gone with the wind' the question why is the homestead called Tara came up
came up must be a freudian thing
So onto the internet find out more about Tara
I just thought I would share one of the stranger sights which I ain't heard about before Stone of Destiny
Way to go Irish people !
Over here we have stone circles that baffle people as to what they represent, in Ireland its much more straightforward
I like the description here
the most obvious phallic symbol of ancient Ireland. It once stood near the Mound of the Hostages, and it is said to be the stone of the coronation of the kings of Ireland. It roared three times when the future king stood on it

Poor King his eyes must have watered

My goodness! Beautiful country and I love the forthrightness, too. THAT is quite the phallus!

Speaking of phalluses (phalli?), I have wondered whether (in Washington DC, USA) the Washington Monument's phallic design was a conscious choice. Our first president is called the 'father' of our country, after all.

Not only Tara. Read (and see) this article: Potency and Sin: Ireland and the Phallic Continuum by Anthony Weir.

Roger of Sheffield, do I detect a note of jealousy because 'ours is bigger than yours'? Seriously though, I think the legend of the stone that roars when the rightful prince or king stands on it comes from somewhere else. I vaguely remember that it was something to do with the O'Neill royal family's crowning, and had a footprint on its surface. Or it might even be the stone that once lay beneath the English throne at Westminsterand is now I believe back in Scotland? The website from which you got the story is linked to the more orthodox archeological website that you provided in your post. It appears to be owned by a group of 'spiritualists' and I wonder if they have their various mythologies mixed up?

great place... was there last year.... stone is pretty impressive........

I have a pic of the mound of the hostages on my kitchen wall..... and more than a few fellas have stopped to have a good look, grinned and said "Where is that?".....lol....

I reckon it and the stone fit very nicely together..... *grin*
