Subject: DC Mudcatters (shameless self promotion) From: Maryrrf Date: 05 Jan 02 - 02:28 PM If any catters happen to be in the DC area Sunday evenings during the month of January, I'll be playing at Pat Troy's Irish Pub in Alexandria every Sunday in January 8:00 pm to closing. I don't get that far afield too often and I'd love to meet anybody who can drop by. Click here |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: PaulM Date: 05 Jan 02 - 05:29 PM Sorry, but I have to laugh at their 'authentic' Irish menu, including: Buffalo Wings, Nachos, Chicken Quesadilla, Baked Brie etc... |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Maryrrf Date: 05 Jan 02 - 07:35 PM Yeah but that's pretty much par for the course around here! One place in Richmond has "Irish Nachos"! Interestingly enough, everybody thinks of corned beef and cabbage as being the most typical of Irish dishes. I didn't see it on a menu anywhere in Ireland! |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Nerd Date: 06 Jan 02 - 03:58 AM Of course, that's the recipe invented in Buffalo, Co. Cavan... |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Mr Red Date: 06 Jan 02 - 08:36 AM Well if we are to believe the Sudlum books all songs are trad Irish song because thy are sung in Ireland. So food is the new trad Irish huh? Maryrrf - tell us what the Guiness tastes like. In the UK it froths with NO2 but not in Dublin. The market demands we are told - as if we can't demand for ourselves!. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Maryrrf Date: 06 Jan 02 - 09:40 AM Well I don't think I'll be drinking any Guiness - just maybe singing about it! I'll have a two hour drive back home at midnight (and have to drag myself in to work Monday morning) so I'll probably just drink coffee. The pub is very congenial, however. There was a nice appreciative crowd last time I played there, so I'm looking forward to it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Maxine Date: 06 Jan 02 - 06:07 PM Hey, it's the first Sunday evening in January....hope it went well for you. If I were nearer, I'd be there, Surrey is a bit of a trek from Ireland but my thoughts are with you! |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Maryrrf Date: 07 Jan 02 - 09:55 AM Thanks. All went well except for the usual "Don't you know any Metallica...Van Halen...U2....Britney Spears.... etc.?" I don't know why people do that - why they don't figure out that a single person up on stage with an acoustic guitar can't perform pop songs by rock groups!. Not to mention I was billed as "Traditional Celtic"! Oh well, maybe I'll brush up on "Whiskey in the Jar" which was recorded by Metallica and that might make some people happy! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: Maxine Date: 07 Jan 02 - 11:51 AM I suppose it's different from the usual "Can you play Streets of London" ! Surely these people realised you were singing folky type music (being that you are a 'traditional celt' and all that)... why the hell did they think you would be playing Metallica? Beats me! |

Subject: RE: BS: Shameless Self Promotion From: mooman Date: 07 Jan 02 - 12:01 PM I normally stay in Alexandria when I come over to Washington (at least once a year). Unfortunately, it looks like I won't be able to fix a visit for January. Drat! Hope the gigs go well! mooman |
