Mark Spoelstra is alive and doing well in California. He recently recorded a CD of great NEW songs. Some old traditional tunes are included as well.   He still has the touch!

What a very generous offer! I'll send a PM.

Interesting observation, reading between the lines: back in January '02, Sorcha's quick response to the ambiguously terse question "Fred Neill?" was:

"Is this an artist, a song or a tune? My ignorance is showing."

18 months later, she had an immediate and complete response ready when I posted my question about Fred's "The Dolphins." I'm impressed!

PG...I remembered that I had posted the lyrics last year and that we had some interesting stuff on this thread. Not synchronicity but as I said I will tape the record, which I found in the .25 bin at the public library last year and send it to you if you like.

Harpgirl,

Is this in response to my request for "The Dolphins" lyrics, posted just a couple of hours ago? Or just a coincidence?

Either way, thanks. I had never heard of Dick Rosmini before today, nor had I seen Stefan Wirz' excellent web site.

The Dolphins

Fred Neil

This world may never change the way it's been
And all the ways of war can't change it back again
And I'm searching for the dolphin in the sea
Sometimes I wonder do you ever think of me

I'm not the one to tell this world how to get along
I only know that peace will come when all hate is gone
And I'm searching for the dolphin in the sea
Sometimes I wonder do you ever think of me

Sometimes I think about Saturday's child
And all the happy tunes when we were running wild
And I'm searching for the dolphin in the sea
Sometimes I wonder do you ever think of me

from Fred Neil Capitol Records, 1966

Stewie: I'm not aware of much being available by Dick Rosmini. He was a fine guitarist but seemed happy to stay in the background. Frankie: No idea where Mark Spoelstra was.. when in doubt, go on eBay. I had three albums by him, including one which was on a major label, and had my friend Ed Trickett playing hammered dulcimer on one song. I still like Mark's Working on a Building and Dead Thumb Roll. I believe that he was a Conscientious Objector in the Vietnam War... I had an album of his after that called (From What I remember, Four and Twenty Questions.) He was one of the finest 12 string guitar players and had a great voice.

Jerry, there are now 2 double CDs available that cover all his albums. The most recent one is 'Tear Down the Walls (with Vince Martin)/Bleecker & MacDougal' a double CD set of his 2 Elektra albums (I can't give specific reference as I have lent my copy, but it is available through Amazon etc). His 3 Capitol albums are on 'The Many Sides of Fred Neil' Collector's Choice Music CCM-070-2. There is a Fred Neil site:

By the way, whatever did happen to Mark Spoelstra? I have several of his LPs which I enjoyed immensely, but have not listened to in years.

Whatever happened to Dick Rosmini? You must be pschyic, Jerry. Seriously though, I've only heard one recording of Rosminis' (that I was aware of). It was on some collection of 12 string instrumentals and it was dynamite. Ditto on what you said about Fred Neil, what a voice. I think he passed on last year and I seem to recall there was a thread about it at the time. f

Hey, Fred Neil! What is this, stump the elders? Fred Neil was a regular in Greenwich Village in the early 60's. He had an amazing rich, deep bass voice, was a fine guitarist ans songwriter. Didn't record much, but they've recently put out a CD of his stuff. Next thing you know, somebody will be asking about whatever happened to Mark Spoelstra or Dick Rosmini.

Jerry
