Subject: HELP HELP HELP Button box teaching help! From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 09 Jan 02 - 04:36 AM Right... here's the thing... I teach irish music to a small community group kids, adults, anyone who comes along. Well I usually concentrate on the whistle, flute and bodhran (mainly bodhran). Which is great... The thing is though, we have just lost our button box player who was teaching the learner box players. Gone and moved to a better clime and a new job. Well, ok, our group is still left with the box learners. NOw, fortunately for me they are right at the start beginners, so I have been able to blag along with them and still teach them tunes. What I have been doing is writing simple tunes out in ABC's and then playing them the tune on the whistle/flute. Then getting them to find the notes on their box. If they have trouble then I have to find the notes - I'm picking it up fairly quickly (it's great I'm learning the new instrument with them) but the thing is...... I NEED ALL THE ADVICE I CAN GET PLEASE! So, any hints, tips, how to's would be greatly appreciated. Are there any good web sites I can go to that can give me some tips. I need hints on teaching technique as well. Plus playing technique too. Any easy ways of teaching the people how to? Just basically HELP ! ok, so my learners are coping fairly well with the current situation, the other thing is when they start to improve - can I keep up with them - not owning one of the squeezy things. I've only ever had a short loan of a concertina... So i know the elementarys of the squeezy things... Please any advice would be fab! Hopefully soon we will find someone to help us out on this but in the short term its me! (arghhh)
