Subject: Johnny was tall From: GUEST,dancer Date: 14 Jan 02 - 07:44 PM does anyone know the lyrics to a song that goes something like this?
Johnny was tall, Johnny was fair The song goes on to tell how Johnny, the womanizer, chases the "Lady of flowering Green" and when he catches her, she says he can take her home, but first she is longing to see his true form. When she touches him, he turns into a wildwood swine. The girls of flowering green remember their lost love by calling all the pigs "johnny" in flowering green. |

Subject: Lyr Add: FLOWERING GREEN (from Kathy Mar) From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Dec 11 - 07:08 PM Here's how I hear it: FLOWERING GREEN Written by Kat Eggleston As sung by Kathy Mar on "My Favorite Sings" [sic] (2003) Johnny was tall and Johnny was fair. To me hey come derry daw derry daw down Johnny was handsome beyond all compare. To me hey come derry daw derry daw down But Johnny was heartless and cruel to me, And to other young women near Flowering Green. Johnny rode hunting one morning alone. He spied a young woman where he thought to find none. Her hair was like sunlight; her skin was like cream, And she was the lady of Flowering Green. The forest was silent as Johnny gave chase. His blood it was pounding; his heart it was racing. She turned round to face him in a glade by a stream, And he lost his heart in Flowering Green. "Fair lady, come back to my dwelling with me, For I am uneasy in Flowering Green." "Oh, handsome young hunter, you may take me home, But first I am longing to see your true form." So Johnny drew near; the forest was hushed. He smiled as he let the proud ...(?) touch. Her eyes they bewitched him much stronger than wine, And he became one of the wild boar swine. So now we tend our farms, our goats, and our cows. We sorrow no more, broken promises or vows, But we still hold our love in the highest esteem. We call all the pigs Johnny in Flowering Green. |
