Subject: HELP!!! From: GUEST,Peter Graham Date: 15 Jan 02 - 10:47 PM I am trying to find the artist/author for a song I heard some 20 years ago. Here are a few of the lyrics I can remember. "There are beacons to be lit There is wine to be tasted There are ???? to use and others to be wasted. Chorus... "There is time enough tomorrow time enough tomorrow for a sad song." I recall that the singer was male and sounded English. (although I heard the song in Australia) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Peter Graham (petergraham@iinet.net.au) |

Subject: RE: HELP!!! From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jan 02 - 02:41 AM I thought at first it sounded a lot like Bill Staines' Phoenix but the words are not the same. Sorry. Also, it is best if you put some of the words or something more descriptive in the title. You'll get more attention that way.:-) Good luck! kat |
Subject: RE: HELP!!! Lyrics? There are beacons to be lit? From: Jeri Date: 16 Jan 02 - 05:30 PM On this web page, I found a recording of a song by Alex Glasgow titled "Time Enough Tomorrow." I don't know if it's your song or not. Maybe? |
Subject: RE: HELP!!! Lyrics? There are beacons to be lit? From: Jim Dixon Date: 19 Apr 06 - 10:12 PM Wikipedia's article on Alex Glasgow gives one of his song titles as TIME ENOUGH TOMORROW (FOR A SAD SONG...). It seems very likely that this is the song Peter Graham wanted. TIME ENOUGH TOMORROW is on Alex Glasgow's album "Songs Vol 1 & 2" available from MWM Records - Mawson & Wareham (Music) Ltd, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. I couldn't find any lyrics or sound samples. |
Subject: RE: HELP!!! Lyrics? There are beacons to be lit? From: DMcG Date: 20 Apr 06 - 07:54 AM Those words are certainly part of 'Timne Enough Tomorrow' by Alex Glasgow. I have the record and will type up the lyrics for you this evening if I get a chance. |
Subject: RE: HELP!!! Lyrics? There are beacons to be lit? From: DMcG Date: 20 Apr 06 - 02:58 PM Ok, its a bit tricker than I thought because the lyrics were not printed on the sleeve or on a separate piece of paper, so I will have to transcribe it. I can't do that tonight but will try to do it over the weekend. |
Subject: Lyr Add: TIME ENOUGH TOMORROW (Alex Glasgow) From: DMcG Date: 21 Apr 06 - 02:56 PM TIME ENOUGH TOMORROW (Alex Glasgow) There are beacons to be lit, There is wine to be tasted, There are hours to use That yesterday were wasted. And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. There's the wind through the trees, There are apples to be gathered, There are hands to touch And colours to be savoured And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. Another day to live Another day to wait expecting Another day to smile at A stranger unsuspecting And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. Another day to sing Another day to fling the clouds aside Another day to cling to The love that lies beside you And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. And there's time enough tomorrow, Time enough tomorrow, There is time enough tomorrow For a sad song. |
Subject: RE: HELP!!! Lyrics? There are beacons to be lit? From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Apr 06 - 06:38 PM Thanks, DMcG. By the way, did you notice I had revived a 4-year-old thread? I hope you still consider your work worthwhile. I appreciate it, even if Peter Graham isn't around to notice. It looks like he only posted once--unless, of course, he used a different name. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Time Enough Tomorrow (Alex Glasgow) From: DMcG Date: 28 May 17 - 02:08 PM Well, Jim, it may have taken 10 years but a moment ago I wanted these lyrics and thought "I bet they are on Mudcat somewhere". So the effort of transcribing it was worth while after all! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Time Enough Tomorrow (Alex Glasgow) From: JHW Date: 29 May 17 - 04:35 AM Though its years since I played the album I can 'picture' Alex Glasgow singing that and reading the words now think I might just learn it. There could well be many songs we heard back when which may now have more significance. |
