It will be official, later this afternoon when Rog hands in his resignation. We are moving to the Western Slope of Colorado, leaving ol' Why-Oh-Myn, for my family's early stomping grounds.

My dad's cousin, like an aunt to me, will be in the same town, as well as one of my cousin's, my *second* family, and my *second* mom. We will only be 3 hours from my dad and 2 hours from my sister, bet, as well as a closer 5-6 hours from my other sisters! Leaving one daughter behind, which will be good!*grin*

It has been no secret that Rog has had it with his current job, esp. boss, who is a banty rooster bully. When the last major employee, the accountant, quit due to heart problems brought on by stress of the job, the boss put his hand through a wall, then made the employees patch the hole! Rog has been under tremendous stress for a long time and we are really looking forward to the positive change.

His new boss is a great guy, will provide him with lots of bennies in writing(!) and the best thing of all....we will be buying our own home there!!! I can hardly wait to begin "nesting." As Night Owl has said, I've been "perching" too long! *bg*

Anyway, Rog will be going south in a week or two, depending on how things go today when he gives notice. The critters and I will go after we've found a house and completed the purchase. Probably in about two month's time.

Wish us luck? And, all good thoughts, etc. are greatly appreciated. I am going to miss him miserably, but it is going to be worth it!!

Colorado...here we come!

Thanks!

luvyakat

Do well Kat and Co.!!!!!!!!!!

What part of the western slope? My husband and I met in Crawford, near Hotchkiss, where a dear friend of ours has a ranch. We get over the mountains to visit over there for at least a long weekend every summer.

Kat don't forget to keep us informed. What town in Colorado are you moving to.I worked in Pagosa Springs for 18 months and I was there when McCall came out with the song Wolf Creek Pass and since I skied at the top of Wolf Creek Pass I could just see a truck coming down that highway and making that one turn that if you missed the next landing was 1000 feet down.Enough BS heres wishing you the best in Colorado Louie

Not that I would be skiing there, but I do want to visit friends at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.

"Colorado or Bust"? Those are the choices? In that case, I'll keep my bust and stay in Pennsylvania. *G*

Seriously, I'm very glad to hear that your husband has found a great new job (not easy, in these times!) and that you'll be moving closer to some much-loved family members. Congratulations and all the best thoughts to you both!

Yeah, kat, you better think this thing through -- ya wanna keep that bust, ya know.... in case Rog needs it for sompn...although come to think of it, the expression "useless as tits on a boar" used to mean something...but they weren't talking about someone else's, were they??

Seriously, congrats on your and Rog's making the big break. This is courage and adventure!! Let me know when the housewarming is and mayhap I'll drive up and see y'all...it's only a four day commute, what the hell...:>)

Love ya!

Kat...I remember years ago picking up a hitchhiker just west of Denver. He had a sign reading "Grand Junction CO", and had been on the road for two or three days, coming from Pittsburgh. I treated him to lunch (I was on an expense account in those days), and all during lunch he kept talking about how he had heard so many good things about G Jct, and how he was going to build him a new life there. We got to Grand Jct and I let him out downtown and wished him luck. I spent the night in a hotel, and made sales calls in the area the next day. I was heading out of town to a call about 5 miles West of town, and there on the shoulder of the road was the hitcher, with a sign that said "Salt Lake City UT".

LOL w/Jen!!

LeeJ...that's just great!! So you're saying I am gonna just keep heading west???!!*bg* You know what my granddad did when he went to Utah to work during WWII? He wrote a poem and called it:

SAHARA VILLAGE - HILL FIELD
by Frank Hudson

WARNING - not entirely PC - read at own discretion

I live in a house on the side of a hill
Where the drifting sands go by;
The sand that filters thru (sic) keyhole and crack
Until you'd be glad to die.
It gets into your hair and into your mouth
And into the sheets of the bed
It buries the plants you have hopefully set
And it lies as heavy as lead.
You cry and cuss, but there still is the sand
And the sand there will always be.
There is no relief from the Utah sand
Until the angels come for me.
"This is the place," old Brigham said
And, yes, it is the place of sand,
Where Mormons live and humans die,
In this God-forsaken land.

A little bit of history for the newbies, my granddad was raised on a cattle ranch. His only prejudices were against sheepherders and Mormon, because they were usually one and the same and also because his father was in a shootout with one of them, killing his opponent in self-defence, but the fella's community did their best to get my ggranddad hung. Thus was born the prejudice...the only one I grew up with but do not hold, today.:-)

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes and THINK MUDCAT GATHERING - WESTERN COLORADO - After I have nested a bit...maybe near the end of summer!!

Oh KAT! I'm so glad, (and glad I stopped in this once in a great long while. It has been an hellacious year for me. When I get done with all the work I have to do, I'm taking a nap! Right now it is scheduled for January '05) BUT I won't be out there this year. Boo! Wavestar graduates this June, the same time I'm usually there. Well, I'll come see you next year, then. Maybe we can have another gathering in June '03? And compare family notes!

Big Hug!

If you head South on I25 and then West on Highway 24 you'll pass through the little town of "Bust" Colorado. So you can have Colorado AND Bust.

When will this jouney take place? If I'm still in The Springs you can stop in for a cuppa.

CamiSue! Good to see you. My email has changed...I'll give you a call! Sorry you won't be out this year!

Sins, wish I'd been in a bath like that, too! Though,I have it easy compared to you. All of my stuff is already packed and ready to go, except what we are using in our bedroom and kitchen...just the bare minimum for the past year. Good luck and hang in there. When you get there it will be SO GOOD!!

Bertdarlin'...you are on the wrong side of the Slope for the moving caravan, BUT if you are still in CO later this summer, you'd better come join in on the Western Slope for housewarming, etc.!!! Don't have a date, yet, I figured we ought to get the house first.:-)

I'll keep ya posted!

Thanks, everyone. If we can get Rog through the next few days it'll be a relief. he's jittery, the wind is blowing about 40 mph, which really puts him on edge, and his mind is already there, i.e. not focussing on last minute things he needs to do around here, so....lottsa fun!*bg*

His boss is being really decent, even giving him a going away party on Monday and made a point to ask me to come!

Thanks, again,

luvyakat

Thanks, again, everyone. Just an update, thought I'd let you all know that after a hallacious drive in 40 mph winds, with gusts up to 60, with the old Chevy van and 13' 1960's travel trailer loaded down, Rog made it to my sister's last night, after 7.5 hours of driving what is normally a 4-4.5 hr. drive.

This morning, despite 15 below cold, the good ol' van started up and he rolled on down to the Grand Valley and was at the station, this afternoon, unloading his equipment.Got signe dup for the payroll and all, so "Houston, it's a go!"

Now all he has to do is find us a house!**BG**

Fuckin-A!!!!

I told ya we were relatives, and now we gotta be G-darned neighbors!

The roundhouse is filled most every night
With loafers and drifters of most every plight
On their backs are no clothes
In their pockets no bill
Yet still ya keep driften
To them Colorado hills.

Realize you are heading straight into the heart of MY territory - 14,000 feet of solid granite, felzspare, and quartz separate you from the moral majority, with headquarters in C-Springs. We don't traffic well with alternative religions, lifestyles, or women's rights at the expence of another human life. Thankfully, you are standing by your man, and that will do you proud!

Unfortunately, Rodg will find things here the same as he left them there.

Ah, garg, this just wouldn't be the fuckin' Mudcat if fuckin' garg didn't show up and post' a bunch of fuckin' presumptious shit in one of my fuckin' threads! I mean this sincerely, when I tell you for the first time, "Thank you, darlin'" careful, I can see you turning red with choking

Ain't nobody raining on my parade. Besides which it was wiccans who built the moral minority's buildings in the Springs and in each corner inscribed a pentacle in the concrete before laying the flooring. I've relatives in the Springs who would call your vision of it hopeful, at best.

It is high time more of us who come from the old roots of Colorado return the balance.
