Now I know what you do for a living Liz I'm definetley not going! I've seen enough "tax people" just lately.I thought traffic wardens were bad, but at least they only take 20 pound at a time!
On second thoughts Liz, if I buy you a pint could you rduce my tax bill?

I'm not too happy about all these taxation remarks.... I'm one of the poor sods who has to sort your bloody forms out and I can tell you that 3 out of 10 are incorrect or incomplete (usually the accountant's fault), 3 out of 10 are late and of the other 4, 1 will be under investigation and not have a file handy.

And you wouldn't credit how many tax people are folkies or bikers!!

Giok asked: Nobody has mentioned the raffle for a bit?
Please don't mention this to the wife, if she thought I was going to get a bit, she'd want some, too.
And as for the subject of decimalisation, I have been trying for years to have the clock decimalised. Ten hours in a day, ten minutes to the hour, etc.
This would of course make the new Hour = approx two and a half old hours,
allowing for inflation, that is.
This would do away with the confusion arising when one party is using the 24hr clock, and the other A.M. & P.M.
I,m sure Mr Blair would see that we got a fair exchange rate when crossing date lines.

Nobody has mentioned the raffle for a bit, I assume it's still on? I was wondering if perhaps people would prefer the proceeds of the raffle to go towards the cost of the weekend instead. Either way you've all got time to think on that idea, but whatever, can soemebody bring a book or two of raffle tickets?

£15 covers the hire of York House and the liability insurance. The culinary delight (hehehe) on Friday, I'll sort out since this suddenly seems to have become a problem. Beer, you pays for. With money.

Yes Giok but that is precisely our query - what are we paying for? I am not trying to be awkward but I don't want to find that £15 suddenly turns into a lot more and am merely trying to avoid any misunderstanding on my or anyone else's part.

Mudguard, We've been converting to metric as long as I can remember. Kids are taught metric measures and have been for at least a generation. It'll take along time, after all we didn't complete our conversion to decimal currency until 1971 and that started with the issue of the florin (or 10p piece) in the early years of Queen Victoria's (Lawd bless 'er) reign.

Interesting thought, accepting Euros! It would save me a walk to the bank to get these non-Euros usually used in Britain...

9 miles by 12 miles - a really big room... Or is Britain really starting to convert to metric?

Two weeks to go...

Thanks Dave, that would be helpful - as although York House has a substantial amount of PA equipment, bits of it are often out on loan.

As stated in an earlier thread, the big room is about 9m by 12m.

Even more important - does the £15 include any BEER ?

I will have a small PA, with 3 mics/stands, but if I bring an extra mixer (8 channels) there should be plenty of room for more mics or DIs (1/4 inch jacks). I don't know how big the hall is, but probably a caller's mic is the main priority.

Wot abouwt me an Bill? We'll be coming down on early Saturday morning-maybe arriving about 04.00 hrs and leaving sunday, probably before lunch.

Do we need amps for ceiliedh? Who else is in the band? Where is it going to be held? Is there a cessation of singing parties for the ceiliedh time, so folks can listen and dance if they want to?

So may questions!

Cheers

Eric

Yes, the charge for anyone staying anywhere within the bounds of york house will be the same, whatever it is. Also, everybody will be asked to contribute, if you're staying in a B&B less, obviously, and if you're popping in just for the day then I guess it's voluntary.

There seems to be some concern here, not unreasonably, about costs. Well, we can assume that it will be in the region of £15 to camp indoors at York House; will there be any hands-in-pockets business for those of us who want simply to--how do you Americans put it?--hang out there?

Steve (I never know what's going on anyway)

Hi gang!! Yes I'm afraid I'm still coming, all the way from what is at present a v. dull v. wet, and v. windy Scottish Highlands. The only change is that I've decided to caravan instead of B&B, about the same price as I'm renting a caravan, but leaves me more flexible in the matter of drinking, or getting up in the night to pee, etc. Hope there will be room for another van. BTW no reply from Brid Widder on the offer of a lift, this offer is universal. I shall be coming down the A1 for as much of the way as is practical, and then cutting across to SS. Have a fairly roomy vehicle, i.e. 4 seats + plenty space.
Save the last dance for me....Giok

If indoor camping is going to cost £15 then we are going to have to think VERY seriously about coming. I thought a figure of £4 had been mentioned in previous threads plus money for the meal on Friday.

I think I've got it more or less clear now - there have been a lot of threads about this, and a lot of variegated posts.

It all starts Friday February 8th, and lasts till Sunday 10th. From noon York House, a former boarding school, is ours. And here is a map of where it is in the township of Stony Stratford in the Lost Kingdom of Milton Keynes.

Indoor or outdoor camping is available. About £15 per person will cover the cost. (And there are also B&B possibiities detailed somewhere in one of the threads.)

Friday pm. Meet & greet with some nosh available. Friday evening, Local folk club with Ms Bill Jones, admission £4. Or beer and frivolity in York House.

On Saturday morning, a businesslike meeting convened by Gareth for an hour or so.

Saturday lunch, at Fox & Hounds. After lunch, a trip to The Crown with for a session.

Saturday evening, impromptu ceili and jollity at York House.

Sunday lunchtime , an excursion to The Vaults for a long-standing open session. This goes on till 3pm, after which we should wind down and depart. No indoor or outdoor camping on Sunday night, so stay sober if you are driving.

I hope that's right. If I haven't someone correct any errors, omissions and misunderstandings.

Still not sure if I'll be able to make it. But it sounds pretty good.

I'm coming up in my jallopy, hopefully Fibula's coming along too. We were only discussing the other day, that neither of had and has a clue where we are going, but we are just going to follow the kazoo sounds, and listen for the tankard clanking...

:)

Hitchin me... nah never, I always remeber what me mammy says about doing that sort of thing...

Actually, it doesn't, really...

There WILL BE A CHARGE for the hire of the hall. I don't know how much it will be yet as the authorities wish to put together a special deal... I am chasing this issue as I appreciate it's of importance. Because of the size of the building and the facilities on offer, expect it to be on the order of £15 per person. This is a guess.

Indoor camping will be at york house. If you have a tent, caravan or camper you can pitch or park on the paddock to the rear of the building.

I will be there from around noon, Friday 8th Feb. This is the time I've arranged the booking from.

McGrath - I think the correct term (instead of "informed of") should be "warned of" or possibly "threatened with". Seriously though, aren't you taking your van - Linda and I are planning to bring our caravan. Otherwise do you need a lift from Harlow - I'll be driving M11-M25-M1 and a diversion via the Harlow roundabout isn't far out of my way (I don't know if my full Harlow visa is still valid though) - anyway mail me if you do.
