Subject: RE: Lyr Req: O Cangaceiro From: GUEST,henry Date: 22 Jan 02 - 03:33 AM Hello: Sorcha, Susanne, AliUK, thank you very, very much for the information you provided. The background information of you, AliUK, is highly interesting. I saw the movie in the fifties and never forgot it. I found the title song 'La mulher rendeira' with the help of Napster. The singer indicated in the title is 'Kucerovci'. Thank you once more, Henry, Munich, Germany. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: O Cangaceiro From: AliUK Date: 21 Jan 02 - 07:20 PM Its written in portuguese and give me a few days and Ill have the words for you ( with translation). O Cangaceiro was refilmed a few years ago and the new version is fairly faithful to the b/w version though not as atmospheric. It was loosely based on the life and times of Lampiao, a bandit that roamed the mountains and deserts of the interior here in the Notheast of brazil. He was set up as a kind of Robin Hood figure, but in reality he was a thug and a bully that evaded the law because he had the protection of some of the big ranchers here. ( He was in fact my wifes great uncle so I do actually know what Im on about.) If you want to see a nice satire of Lampiao, search out a movie called Auto de Comparecida, a recent movie that is extremely faithful to life here in the interior of the Northeast and a very funny movie to boot. Aslo check out the music of Luiz Gonzaga O Rei do Baiao. ( For some reason my punctuation keys arent working...damn!!) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: O Cangaceiro From: Susanne (skw) Date: 21 Jan 02 - 06:15 PM I have a recording of this song by Joan Baez, but no idea which album it comes from. Taped it from the radio. Unfortunately, I don't have Portuguese (or whatever language it's written in). |
