We've got some instrumental music my wife would like to use as accompaniment for singing. I can edit it to have the right number of verses etc. but some of it's not in a key that works well for her. I tried using Goldwave to change the pitch but it makes the music sound terrible. Does anyone know of any other software that would do a better job? The music is guitar, piano, etc.

PS - she wants to use the music when she sings at a funeral tomorrow, so I'd probably have to be able to download the program to get it in time.

midi? if so - try Noteworthy composer. it will import the music, you can transpose in a couple seconds and export again.

if it's WAV or MP3 - I don't know anything.

I would not do it on such short notice for an event like that-- better to have a quick rehearsal with a live accompanist, even if it's only half a verse to set tempo and agree on any repeats, pauses, etc..

I should have clarified - I want to do this with .WAV files.

Unfortunately an accompianist is not an option - there is no piano available. I'm not good enough a guitarist to be ready that soon.

MIDI or NWC would be an option if there was a good way to get a recording of it - I suppose I might be able to hook a cassette deck up to my soundcard somehow.

If you need MIDI, post the name of the tune you need as a separate thread,"REQ MIDI for XXXXX"(whatever the name of the tune is) the Mudcat crew take a special joy in digging out MIDI files from all corners of the internet-and often, very quickly!

Cakewalk Pro Audio does a great job with this. Alter pitch without altering speed, alter speed without altering pitch, or a combination.

Look into the free downloads available for Pro Tools.
