At present:

* a greater number, with effort, may partially understand you

My method of reading it is an easy one. I don't go word for word, just read the whole sentence and it unravels sweetly into my mind. No prob.

Why do you think they are ridiculous spellings as opposed to the usual ones for the relevant dialect.

And as for intelligence, if you had enough you could easily understand the written word - but I think you just can't be bothered so you want the translation done for you. I suspect you would have a lot more trouble if it were spoken - I know I would.

Having spoken four dialects of North American English in my life (Paul check out a dialect map), Broad Scots is alright with me, 'specially since it's partly ancestral to two of the dialects I spoke. The more the merrier. Slogan: Don't homogenize Anglic, keep it percolating!
