Subject: The Red Dog Saloon From: Peter Stanley Date: 13 Mar 98 - 02:27 AM Oscar Brand sang this song in concert 20 years or so ago. Does anyone know the words, story, or source? |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Whippoorwill Date: 13 Mar 98 - 11:46 AM Does the chorus start out, "She played tambourine with a silver jingle, and she must have known the words to at least a million tunes"? If so, the Oak Ridge Boys recorded it when they switched over from gospel to country. |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Bruce O. Date: 13 Mar 98 - 01:55 PM Do you possible mean "The Redlight Cafe"? |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Bert Date: 13 Mar 98 - 02:27 PM Peter, We probably need a little more to go on. There was a Red Dog Saloon in "Springtime in Alaska" sung by Johnnie Cash. |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Humdinger Folksinger Date: 13 Mar 98 - 05:15 PM Can't tell you anything about the song, but the Red Dog Saloon is in Juneau, Alaska, which is why you can't buy Red Dog Brew in Alaska. Name infringement, etc. |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Bojangles Date: 14 Mar 98 - 05:32 PM There is a reference to the song, " The Red Dog Saloon", in the book, "Alaska Sourdough Ballads and Folk Songs", by Alaskan collector Paul Roseland. Has anyone heard anything about Oscar Brand in the last few years? A call to him, if I can find him, would solve this puzzle. |
Subject: RE: The Red Dog Saloon From: Alice Date: 14 Mar 98 - 06:02 PM For some reason this thread is reminding me of the only eating establishment in McLeod, Montana. It's called The Road Kill Cafe. alice |
