Subject: Song in 'Big Hand for a Little Lady' From: Fiolar Date: 31 Jan 02 - 09:56 AM Can any 'catter help with a song which has me stumped for ages. Called (I believe) "Rosie, You are My Posy" it cropped up several times in that great comedy Western "Big Hand For a Little Lady" (AKA "Big Deal in Dodge City")starring Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward,Burgess Merdith and Jason Robards among others. It was the favourite of the "doc" character played by Burgess. Would love to know if it has been recorded and by whom. Thanks. |
Subject: Lyr Add: MA BLUSHIN' ROSIE (J Stromberg, E Smith) From: Tiger Date: 31 Jan 02 - 03:47 PM Hi, Fiolar....... Great movie, and a wonderful Burgess Meredith character! The song is "Ma Blushin' Rosie (Ma Posie Sweet)", Al Jolsen had it as a hit in 1946, but it's much older than that. I'm not sure who sang it in the movie, but I well up when I see Burgess listening to her at the end. Here are some actual recordings:

You are my heart's bouquet. Come out, here in the moonlight, There's something, sweet love, I want to say.
Your honey, boy, I'm waitin'
There's a little bunch of sweetness
Her baptismal name is Rosie,
Professor!
You are my heart's bouquet. Come out here in the moonlight, There's something, sweet love, I'm gonna sing about my baby!
Your honey, your boy, I'm waitin', |
