Subject: Child of the Woodlands From: GUEST,M.L.E.I. Date: 01 Feb 02 - 08:59 PM I am looking for the lyrics of a song called "Child of the Woodlands". It had a simple but haunting melody and was sung in gaelic (I don't know which gaelic). I heard it on a tape that was recorded off of an old record my Granfather'd had. I don't know who sang it - it may have been Nana Mouskouri. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. |

Date: 01 Feb 02 - 09:15 PM I also would like to find the words to "The Southern Cross" and another song that begins: "As I walked out, One summer's day To view the meadows Green and gay, A pleasant bower I espied Standing fast by The river's side. And in it a Maiden I heard cry Alas alas There's none e'er loved as I." |

Subject: RE: Child of the Woodlands From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 10 Feb 02 - 10:31 AM The third song you mention can be seen at Lesley Nelson's site: As I Walked Forth (with midi) and at The Lied and Song Texts Page, without: As I walked forth. |
Subject: RE: Child of the Woodlands From: GUEST,mgarvey@pacifier.com Date: 10 Feb 02 - 01:57 PM by Southern Cross do you mean the Newfoundland song about sealing? I have a few of the words. I heard Anita Best sing it in Newfoundland and boy was it beautiful. I think there are several songs by that name. People have suggested putting each request on a separate thread so that others can respond easier.. mg |
Subject: RE: Child of the Woodlands From: GUEST,M.L.E.I. Date: 13 Feb 02 - 11:02 PM Thanks, Malcolm. The song 'The Southern Cross' that I want is the one that begins: Gaily flags were proudly waving, at the hour she set for... (I don't remember all the words)On the morning of her sailing, many hearts they did rejoice. It is a Newfy song about a ship lost at sea. Beautiful tune. As per having different threads, is it possible to have one referenced somehow to this one for The Southern Cross? Though it is really Child of the Woodlands that I am most interested in. -ML |
