Subject: Words to Country Gospel song? From: Banjer Date: 02 Feb 02 - 08:11 AM I have searched the DT with no results. All I can remember of the song I am looking for is a phrase that goes: .....and he said with his hands raised to heaven that time was no longer to be..... Best as I can remember it was sung by Roy Acuff. I heard the song in the 60's as far as I can recall. |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: THE GREAT JUDGMENT MORNING From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 02 Feb 02 - 08:41 AM Date: 9/2/00; 10:18:36 PM From: <[4]tausburn@hotmail.com> Subject: Song, "The Great Judgment Morning" This is the work of Tim Ausburn. List under Hank Williams Roy Acuff had a good record of this in the late 40's. Hank did it on a Mother's Best radio show. Key G THE GREAT JUDGMENT MORNING (G) I dreamed that the great judgment (C) morning, Had (G) dawned, and the trumpet had (D7) blown, I (G) dreamed that all nations had (C) gathered, To (G) judgment be- (D7) fore the white (G) throne. From the throne came a bright shining (C) angel, And he (G) stood on the land and the (D7) sea, And (G) swore with his hand raised to (C) heaven, That (G) time was no (D7) longer to (G) be. CHORUS: And oh what weeping and (C) wailing, As the (G) lost were told of their (D7) fate, They (G) cried for the rocks and the (C) mountains, They (G) prayed, but their (D7) prayers were too (G) late. The rich man was there but his money, Had melted and vanished away. A pauper stood there in the judgment, His debts were too many to pay. The great man was there, but his greatness, When death came, was left far behind, The angel that opened the records, No trace of his greatness could find. The widow was there and the orphan, God heard and remembered their cries, No sorrow in heaven forever, God wiped all the tears from their eyes. The gambler was there and the drunkard, And they who had sold them the drink, With people who gave them the license, Together in hell they did sink. The mortal man to the judgment, But self-righteousness would not do, For the men who had crucified Jesus, Had passed off as mortal men too. And the souls that had put off salvation, Not tonight, I'll get saved by and by, No time now to think of religion, At last they had found time to die. Subject: Lyr Add: HARBOR OF LOVE (Stanley Brothers) From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 03 Feb 02 - 10:30 AM The Stanley Brothers, who contributed to "O Brother, Where Art Thou," had a song called "Harbor of Love" that mentioned "the great judgement morning." There are several hymns that contain the phrase. HARBOR OF LOVE There's coming a time on the great judgement morning When the Savior will welcome you home. Will you be prepared for the journey to Heaven On the great ship that carries God's chosen ones home? Oh, the water's so deep (oh, the water's so deep On the rier of Jordan (on the river of Jordan), And the light shines so bright (and the light shines so bright) From the heaven above (from the heaven above) And the midnight has passed (and the midnight has passed) A new day is dawning (in heaven on high). Oh, the great ship will anchor (oh, the great ship will anchor) In the "Harbor of Love." If you're wandering in sin away from God's teaching, Won't you ask him to show you the way? Fall down on your knees in a chapel next Sunday And meet all your friends up in heaven some day. Written by Carter Stanley and sung by the Stanley Brothers. Taken from www.bluegrasslyrics.com. Subject: Lyr Add: THE GREAT JUDGMENT MORNING From: Jim Dixon Date: 05 Feb 02 - 01:19 PM The CyberHymnal has some significant differences in wording, most importantly "moral" where Cowpie had "mortal." The chords below come from the Cowpie version. CyberHymnal, as usual, has a MIDI file.
THE GREAT JUDGMENT MORNING
(G) I dreamed that the great judgment (C) morning
CHO: And oh, what weeping and (C) wailing,
The rich man was there, but his money
The widow was there with the orphans.
The moral man came to the judgment, [Recorded by Roy Acuff, the Louvin Brothers, and Slim Whitman.] |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Great Judgment Morning From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 16 Aug 05 - 02:35 PM Correction to name (Jim Dixon Post)- Music by L. L. Pickett. The same lyrics are printed in "The Golden Sheaf," enlarged edition, 1902. Cyberhymnal says the words were written by Shadduck in 1896. Only Pickett's name is given in "The Golden Sheaf." A note says "Copyright 1894, by L. L. Pickett, Wilmore, KY. Used by per." |
