Hoping to be able to get there Saturday afternoon. My other half wants to buy a conservatory and guess where the showroom is - Northampton. Now wouldn't it be rude to go all that way and not drop by? (I hope she doesn't find out that they flog the one she wants in Shrewsbury, which is 11 miles as opposed to 111 miles!)

What are the current weather conditions over there on the British Isles, esp. London/Stony Stratford? Do I have to bring polar equipment from the continent? Is there snow/ice? What are the outside temperatures? (here in Munich we had a 20 degree temperature drop within 3 days - Sunday lunchtime about 22 deg. Celsius/Centigrade, this morning slight frost on the grass...)

Update to schedule!

Saturday Lunch - Fox and Hounds, High Street.

Due to kitchen constraints, we'll have to have 2 sittings - 12:30 and 1:30. Menu as follows:

Chicken Curry (Ken's speciality)
Chicken Casserole (do I detect a theme here?)
Vegetarian Curry (different to the chicken curry, he's a stickler for these things)
Expect to pay £4.50. All the above are served with rice. Beer is optional, and extra.

The Crown are expecting us from about 2pm onwards, but Steve and Lindy are so lovely that they won't mind us occupying the place before...

I am in receipt of a polypin of *Moby Dick* Flagship Brewery 4.4abv which refuses to leave my side, so I shall have to bring it with me.
I am told it is a session beer, but I also know the brewers "sessions", so beware.
Having worked in the brewery for a short time, I can thoroughly reccomend Flagship ales, they aint killed me yet.
Kay & I hope to arrive early Friday eve, traffic permitting, and after a bed inflating workshop, will be looking for action (song, dance, ale. not necessarily in that order).
Should we all wear name-tags, in case we forget who we are?(or are found wandering in SS).

Hi there, Cllr Mike
Just turn up for the indoor camping. From what Dai says (he has done all the work to organise it), there will be plenty of space in more than one room.
See you tomorrow!

Dear Micca,
I too have a hippy flask, containing Ellecompagne, guaranteed to bring the dead to life again.
So if you bring me an old woman, be she eight score eight, and her nose and chin both of a height, 'twill make her as pretty as that fair maid over there......AND it cured Sir Harry of a disease three yards long!
So it's hipflasks at dawn. Name your seconds, as I demand satisfaction, sirrer.

Gather ye stalwarts while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the Sun,
The higher he's a-getting
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times, still succeed the former

Then be not coy, but use your time;
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may forever tarry.

Fibula,

I doubt you need flattering, so worried, is probably the best bet.

Well, have a lovely time, you lot. We'll expect a full report when and if some of you sober up. We're very sorry to miss this event, but some friends have decided to matrimonify this weekend, and we're 'helping them celebrate' (officer!)

Les and Maggie

Looks like JohnJ and mum will have to forego gathering. My 'ex' lost his wife and JJ had to go to the U.S. to sort out paperwork for him. JJ hates the place - Clearwater - plastic food and lots of it. We'll be with you in spirit. How's about the Jug? Sounds good. Tara and have a great time,

Helen J.

for Fib

NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (No Moggy's Land) (Bob Kanefsky)

Well, how d'ya do, old Moggy the Cat? I just noticed you landed where I almost sat. D'ya mind if I push you a bit to the side? I've been driving all day on the road where you died. You've been squashed like some butterfly pressed between glass Were you hit by a truck that was moving too fast? Did he slam on the brake as he saw you go past? Or, Moggy the Cat, did he step on the gas?

CHORUS Did he honk the horn loudly? Did you stand your ground proudly? Did a shadow fall o'er ya as the truck mowed you down? Did your eyes glow in that fleeting darkness? Did the birds come and pick at your carcass?

The ground squirrels and mice all seem happy today, The butterflies frolic; the hummingbirds play. A mockingbird sits there composing a dirge Till he finally yields to his scavenger urge. The robins and sparrows all join in the feast In their joyous relief that the terror has ceased. And the birds dance around you, not sad in the least, Like the Munchkins danced over the Witch of the East.

Old Moggy the Cat, I still wonder why You road-kill look so damned surprised when you die. Did you think that some animal spirit survives? Did you really believe that a cat has nine lives?

Sorry, the end fell off. Here's the full version (I hope!):

NOBODY'S MOGGY'S LAND (No Moggy's Land)
(Bob Kanefsky)

Well, how d'ya do, old Moggy the Cat?
I just noticed you landed where I almost sat.
D'ya mind if I push you a bit to the side?
I've been driving all day on the road where you died.
You've been squashed like some butterfly pressed between glass
Were you hit by a truck that was moving too fast?
Did he slam on the brake as he saw you go past?
Or, Moggy the Cat, did he step on the gas?

CHORUS Did he honk the horn loudly?
Did you stand your ground proudly?
Did a shadow fall o'er ya as the truck mowed you down?
Did your eyes glow in that fleeting darkness?
Did the birds come and pick at your carcass?

The ground squirrels and mice all seem happy today,
The butterflies frolic; the hummingbirds play.
A mockingbird sits there composing a dirge
Till he finally yields to his scavenger urge.
The robins and sparrows all join in the feast
In their joyous relief that the terror has ceased.
And the birds dance around you, not sad in the least,
Like the Munchkins danced over the Witch of the East.

Old Moggy the Cat, I still wonder why
You road-kill look so damned surprised when you die.
Did you think that some animal spirit survives?
Did you really believe that a cat has nine lives?
Well, if that is true, this is life Number Ten
Getting ever more flat, spinning round now and then,
As the cars run you over again and again
And again and again and again and again!

Dai,

Thanks for putting that together for us.

It was good to meet old friends, and put a few more faces to names.

I hope that "The Friends of the Mudcat" help keep this site going.

Sorry we couldn't stop longer.

Alan

It was good to see the gang at the F&H & Crown yesterday. I didn't get to talk to many (too many loud "boxes"!)but I was impressed by the singers and musicians altho' not my usual style. They weren't even put off by my out-of-tempo washboard playing.
Despite the injunction brought against me by the Health and Safety Executive I did give the occasional toot on the kazoo (must have been the odd half of Spitfire!). I also broke my New Year resolution and "sang" once,(sorry, guys) but in mitigation I had been tipped the wink it was time to empty the bar to encourage people to get back to York House.
As a non-parent, I thought the assorted bratlings behaved very well too!
I hope the rest of the weekend went off as well. Well done, "Dai"

I promised Morticia the final verse to "The Old Dun Cow". As far as I know it was written by Pete Twitchett who used to run the Croydon Folk Club, in days of yore, when it was at "The Waddon". I might as well post it so that anyone else who wants it (Vectis ?) can pick it up.

I'll also PM it to Dick Greenhaus to see if he can add it to the DT version.

Then all of a sudden, in the firemen rushed,
And they saved us one by one.
But when they came to save the booze, they found it had all gone.
And when the fire was reported in the papers the next day.
They said they found no booze at all - It must have all boiled away !

The fire really did happen many years ago at "The Dun Cow" in The Old Kent Road. It was feared that several drinkers had perished in the fire, until they were found floating in the cellar, which was Half full of water, all in advance states of intoxication.
