What was that band at the festival club on Tuesday 22nd? The ones with the weird instruments and even weirder hairstyles? Thought they made a great sound. They just barged in past the big bouncers - "You need passes" - "We're performing" - "You still need passes" - they were backstage by then! Mike McGoldrick's band - brilliant - both at the Concert Hall and at the Festival Club (and I can dance to Bulgarian whatever-it-is) and Kepa Junkera (I got one of the few double CDs!) Sorry I couldn't get to Susana Seivane, having seen her twice before, and been entranced. Deaf Shepherd too: never ever disappointed with them. Next year, I take at least a week's holiday during the event as I can never get to enough of it (just 3 nights this year) Tattie B

I know what you mean about the drum sets; two performing on stage at any one time seems a bit excessive to me too!

I think the fiddle player from the previous line up was sorely missed too. The highspot for me was when the other musicians went offstage for one number whilst Susana performed her solo spot: Brilliant!

As for the CD I think it is something of "curate's egg!"

Perhaps we get spoilt by the quality and impact of a performer when first heard, but for my money the first CD is a classic.

Yep,i enjoyed the Mercedes/Susana gig as well, ...but i'm not sure about Susana's new line-up, it's a bit too much like a non-stop drum solo with music on top.

What do you think of the album 8pints?

Yes ... there was a wee bit of feedback at the start of one of the gigs I attended. But the sound guys got it sorted very quickly!

I was at the recording of the BBC programme mentioned above. On the bill were Alboka from the Basque region of Spain with Marta Sebesztyen, who were fantastic, Michael McGoldrick, Archie Fisher, and Capercaillie. Capercaille were amazing.

I don't know how much of the full concert they will broadcast, but it'll be worth seeing.

ALso attended a Ballad singing workshop run by Gordeanna McCulloch and Ann Neilson which was really worthwhile, and visited the Festival club.

Yes, Sue & I managed to make the Mercedes Peon & Susana Sevaine concert Saturday night.

Wonderful performance.

Even managed to buy the last copy of Suasana's new CD in the foyer. There were quite a few disappointed people behind me!

Those of you in the UK who have access to Sky Digital / Cable / ITV Digital may be interested to learn that BBC Knowledge is showing a 2 hour compilation of this years festival on Sunday 10 Feb @ 20.00 ( repeated Thursday 14 Feb also at 20.00 ) - artists include Capercaille , La Bottine Souriante & Cara Dillon.

Got thrown out of the Central H. three years ago, even my press pass was'nt good enough. One of the problems at Celtic Conections is that at most festivals the folk at the door are of the "folk world", while at the Concert Hall and the Central H. the folk at the door are just doing a job, usualy bored witless and would rather be at home. cheers

Well,it's over; 17 days of non-stop party in Glasgow,in what used to be the most boring,depressing month of the year.I only managed to get there for the last weekend this year,but it was still a fun-packed four days.

The high spot for me was,as ever,the festival club in the Central Hotel,with its epic all-night sessions.

Anyone else have any perfect moments up there?
