BBC RADIO 2 FOLK AWARDS 2002 WEBCAST

Log in to the BBC Folk and Acoustic website (www.bbc.co.uk/folk) at 8pm on Wednesday 13th February for exclusive webcast coverage of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2002. Taking place on Monday February 11th at the Marriott Hotel, London, the awards continue to raise the profile of the genre and celebrate the achievements of artists in folk, roots and acoustic music.

Artists making live appearances on the night are The Chieftains, Martin Carthy, Kate Rusby, Ralph McTell, Martin Simpson, Cara Dillon, Slàinte Mhath, Cherish The Ladies and BBC Young Folk Award winners for 2001, Give Way.

Presenters will include the Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell (Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport), Andy Kershaw, Johnnie Walker and Cerys Matthews.

The Chieftains and Fairport Convention will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards and nominees in eight categories include The Richard Thompson Band, Loudon Wainwright III, Cara Dillon, Martin Carthy, Martin Simpson, Kate Rusby, The Kate Rusby Band, Show Of Hands, Cherish The Ladies, Tarras, Old Blind Dogs, Colin Reid, John McCusker, Mike McGoldrick, John Boden & John Spiers, Slainte Mhath and Nickel Creek.

Highlights from the evening will be broadcast in a special edition of the Mike Harding Show on BBC Radio 2 (88-91 FM) between 8pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 13 February. After the event, the webcast will also remain available on the BBC Folk and Acoustic website in the Playback section.

Perhaps Tessa Jowell is going to announce that no more folk clubs, sessions and singarounds are going to be placed at risk by local council enforcement, under CURRENT licensing legislation?

I lsened to the Mike Harding programme last night and he said you can watch it live on the bbc website, I presume you would need special sofware for this.
