swirly, does this mean you are now transferring your affections from English musicians to Scottish musicians ?

There's hope for me yet....

Seriously, Martyn Bennett is a huge talent. (As is his mother, the very wonderful singer Margaret Bennett)

Martyn Bennett, eh?

I remember half of Cambridge Folk Festival packing their bags and going home as soon as he started.

Excellent man!

I agree, GUEST, I don't think Martyn would go down well with a rock and roll audience ....

If you are interested in what is NEW in Scottish music then you will find that the new work commissioned by Glasgow Celtic Connections is worth investigating. Some of the artsist who have written works are - Andy Thorburn; Brian MacNeil; Wendy Wetherby; Mary MacMaster, and so on -- it is Friday I cant remember the rest. Some of them are on CD, visit www.tartantapes.com for links to the sites where you can buy. Of the three I attended this year I bought the CD and will go back next year to hear one again because I am not sure I liked it or not. The Mary MacMaster was sensational and is a must for me next year. Scotland is where it is all happening, it is a pity about the rugby though!

Mary MacMaster is always fabulous though. Still unsure about Andy Thorburn though...he kind of gives me the creeps.

Glad someone else realises that Scotland is the place to be...now if only I could find my way back there...
