Subject: English Fireman's Whistle From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 08 Feb 02 - 12:31 PM At the Getaway, I saw a guy in the jugband who had an "English Fireman's Whistle". It was really a siren like you could get on a plastic ring as a kid. Anyone know where I might get one? Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Help: English Fireman's Whistle From: Les from Hull Date: 08 Feb 02 - 01:36 PM The major whistle maker in the UK is Acme (http://www.acmewhistles.co.uk). I'm unaware that English Firemen had or have whistles, but if they do (did?), they would have got them the same place as all our policemen, Boy Scouts and football referees - the Acme company. I'm sure that they'll deliver them to you even if you live right out in the desert. Wile E Coyote gets all his stuff from Acme. Les |
Subject: RE: Help: English Fireman's Whistle From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 11 Feb 02 - 09:43 AM Les, although it is called a whistle, its sound is like a siren. Here in the USA, we are able to get little plastic ones. This one however was much more impressive in sound. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Help: English Fireman's Whistle From: gnomad Date: 11 Feb 02 - 12:13 PM I would second the idea of it being an Acme whistle, they have long been THE firm for whistles in the UK, Try their orchestral section at this website, they even provide sound samples. http://www.acmewhistles.co.uk Must learn that blue clickie thing.

Subject: RE: Help: English Fireman's Whistle From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 11 Feb 02 - 01:40 PM My thanks to gnomad and Les from Hull. I did recheck Acme. This time I was on a computer with a sound board. What I sought was under orchestral whistles. Thanks again to patient persistant Mudcatters. Roger in Baltimore |
