Wonderful, wonderful weekend. Many thanks to Dai for arranging it all and staying calm amongst all the Mudcat and domestic hassle.

You'll have to stop this, Morty. Homeless kittens at Llanstock; orphan kazoos at Stony; what next? I arrived home with two - I bought one from Steve, thenm won one in the raffle because someone had already snaffled the Rod Shearman CD. But alnww has promised a good(?) home for one of them. BTW, when is the next scheduled performance of AIMKO (Anglo-Irish Mudcat Kazoo Orchestra)?

WassaiL! V

I appear to have come home with two kazoos....now either the little buggers are breeding or I have inadvertantly acquired a hitch-hiker.....anyone missing a small but perfectly formed little metal feller please apply, for restoration of same.

Well, as promised, here are the winning numbers that weren't collected on Saturday night. You have to imagine a fanfare of kazoos between each one.....

35

70

228

267

277

and I think 177. I say I think, because I'm convinced the owner of this came forward, and chose a prize there and then..... if not, then it's a good job Eric wasn't there to collect his present, it will go in the prize pool.

Prizes are: a bottle of bubbly, a bottle of beer, another bottle of beer, a Bert Hansell CD, a tin of Hawick balls and something else.

Thanks to everyone who took part, either donating a prize, buying a ticket or being very patient whilst I called out 30 numbers with kazoo accompaniment!! It raised over £100, all profit for Mudcat.

The kazoo workshop did actually happen, just not all in the same room at the same time.... they were a major part of the raffle as you've heard, participated in several of the tunes and songs and even shut Micca up!

Guest, that could be what's known as Skitt's Law. Invariably any post complaining about grammar, spelling or punctuation will contain at least one such error. However, only personal pronouns are capitalised and a pen name is impersonal. That's my excuse, anyway.

It's a shame the kazoo workshop was cancelled, although I appreciate how important the Friends of Mudcat meeting was that replaced it; I was looking forward to presenting an interim report on my on-going research into kazoo history. Maybe if I get tim to type it up, I'll post it--if anyone's interested?

Dai,

Thank you for the wonderful weekend.

Steve,

If you're going to have a guitar with your name carved into it don't wonder why people know who you are.

Guest,

When complaining about misuse of punctuation please remember to start your sentences with capitals and end them with full stops.

Gee thanks, Dai ... What a wonderful weekend you arranged (but a pity you couldn't take more part in it). I particularly enjoyed meeting friends old and new - and the singing, music and drinking was bloody good too. Special mention must go to The Crown, which was very welcoming (even when they hadn't expected us on Sunday lunchtime) and beer was pretty good aswell.

There were so many highlights! But my top two must be the stories of the guest Irish guy (now what was his name?), which were brilliant, as was his delivery and the singing of South Australia at breakneck speed with Kay (Mrs Dead Horse) dancing Appalation on the stage. Well done again, Dai!

"Row on, row on another day" ... at Stony Stratford next year!

Apostrophe's (!) are popping up all over - it must have been something in the beer over the weekend.

I promised Morticia the final verse to "The Old Dun Cow". As far as I know it was written by Pete Twitchett who used to run the Croydon Folk Club, in days of yore, when it was at "The Waddon". I might as well post it so that anyone else who wants it (Vectis ?) can pick it up.
I'll also PM it to Dick Greenhaus to see if he can add it to the DT version.

Then all of a sudden, in the firemen rushed,
And they saved us one by one.
But when they came to save the booze, they found it had all gone.
And when the fire was reported, in the papers the next day.
They said they found no booze at all - It must have all boiled away !

The fire really did happen many years ago at "The Dun Cow" in The Old Kent Road. It was feared that several drinkers had perished in the fire, until they were found floating in the cellar, which was Half full of water, all in advance states of intoxication.

PS. Linda (she'll be using the handle "Smudge" by the way) wants to know how much it's going to cost her to keep the photos out of the "Sunday Sport" etc. - and was Micca really taking a movie ?

My sister-in-law found a good way to stop my bro snoring. Debbie was complaining to hers-i-l Polly about Neil's nightly nasal nuke attacks, and Polly said her mum had told her to tie a bit of string around Wayne's willy (I kid you not), and it really worked. Well, on Deb's last birthday, Neil and Wayne went out to celebrate (Deb had to look after the kids); Neil came back stocious in the small hours, staggered up to bed leaving his clothes on the stairs, and hit the pillow snorting like a Black 5 going up Shap. Deb was contemplating murder, but remembered what Polly had told her. She couldn't find any string, but spotted the ribbon of one of her pressies, and tied it on as directed. It worked!

Next morning, as Neil groped his way into the bathroom for the usual offices, Debbie called out, "Where the [expletive deleted] did you get to last night?" A bemused voice replied, "I dunno--but I won a prize!"

Thanks to everybody for making a great weekend - you're all very charitable. I'm quite impressed that the chilli actually got eaten, well done lads, no ill effects I hope.

Thanks to Steve and Lindy at The Crown, now a great pub under their leadership, for hosting the impromptu session on Sunday, well done catters for taking the initiative there.

Sorry I couldn't make it, really... Anyway, it was great to meet you all at last, what a splendid bunch of people. Except for alan, who would insist on trying to teach my offspring how to play the concertina... ;-) I suspe3ct I'll never hear the last of that from Will, hehehe...

Bob at York House would love to see us all again, but maybe not as soon as April, eh susanne?

Thanks to everybody. More Beer next time...?

I still haven't worked out who many of you were (although everyone seemed to know who I was, to my great puzzlement). I'll scrutinise the photo's ...

I'm sorry I couldn't make it on Sunday, but at least I managed to sing while going about my domestic chores.

"Some locals friendly." Well, I certainly didn't run across any who weren't.

Nice place. Don't forget to remind us of the Stony Stratford mini-festival in June. It's clearly a place with a good local music scene.

And I liked the way in the Sunday session in the Bull all the different types of music hung in together (even if the bar was so crowded that most of the Mudcat singers slipped off for an extra session down the road.)

…Wow - what a lovely weekend. The impromptu Sunday afternoon singaround in the Crown (started by overflow refugees from a packed Vaults Bar at The Bull) finally wound up at around 4.30pm. I reached home half an hour later only to find that my other half, Nick, had discovered the hidden bucket of Maltesers (one of my raffle wins); needless to say, the supply is now severely depleted. Never mind; at least I still have my premium haggis to look forward to!
