In the UK we don't really have Mardi Gras - but we do have Pancake Day! Mine will have fresh lime juice and brown sugar.

Well, you do what you can do, eh Les from Hull? Personally, I think the only party worth celebrating anymore is Carnivale way down dere in South Amerikay (New Orleans Mardi Gras is now sponsored by AT&T type stuff and much too tame). So don't feel bad, I don't get to party the way we were meant to before Lent either.

I did Mardi Gras in 2000. Me and a friend did 5 days there. I think my entire body would go on strike if I subjected it to that again.... ;)

Best part of the whole trip, was listening to a small jazz group play 'Over in the Gloryland' outside of Preservation Hall. Great time.

Got it on my camcorder, too. I might just have to sit back and watch some home movies... :)

swedish tradition includes the eating of shrove tuesday buns.
baked with cardamom, filled with marzipan, topped with warm
milk or whipped cream. yum!

The Shrove Tuesday pancake race in Olney, England has for many years also been contested in Liberal, Kansas, USA.....here is one web site dedicated to the race and results ...there are others...

(times have gotten faster over the years!)

Cajunologie (local UK group) are holding a Mardi Gras dance just outside Canterbury, Kent, on Saturday 15th March.
