I've googled for about an hour, I searched the archives, but to no avail.

Does anyone here remember the lyrics to this old Stills penned gem? ("Pretty Girl Why") Maybe (no doubt) you are better at googling too -- I even put "....." around the title. Dozens of hits--no lyrics.

thanks in advance<
John

John, I looked, and like you, could not find any lyrics. Somebody is going to have to either know this one, or own the album. Sorry.

I'm not having any success here either John. The Insurgent Country Site has a ton of lyrics for Stills (about 5 or 6 albums and a couple for BuSpr, but not this one. I'll keep looking. Can you remember any exact phrase maybe?

Spaw

Sorcha and Catspaw,
Thanks for the effort -- it sounds like you found some of the same sites I did. I feel kinda guilty when it's a tough one like this.
Sorcha I think you are right -- it's going to take someone knowing it. It unfortunately is not on "Retrospective" but it is included in the new Buffalo Springfield boxed set -- a good excuse to go buy a CD that should already BE in my collection! Here are some lyrics as remembered. I tried using them all and the title in quotes -- man did I get some wierd results!

PRETTY GIRL WHY
Like a ghost of someone near she comes to haunt me in my dreams
Keeping such a hold upon my thoughts so near yet far away
Pretty girl why? Pretty girl why not love me?
Pretty girl why?

Still she doesn't see how she can make me be so miserable

The minstrel boy has gone to war now burdened with his father's soul

PRETTY GIRL WHY
As sung by Buffalo Springfield on "Last Time Around" (1968)

1. Like the ghost of someone dear, she comes to haunt me in my sleep.
Still I'm able to sincerely give her heart away for keeps.

CHORUS: Pretty girl, why?
Pretty girl, why not love me?
Pretty girl, why?
Pretty girl, why?

2. Then she leaves me twice as lonely as I was but yesterday,
Keeping such a hold upon my thoughts, so near yet far away.

3. The minstrel boy has gone to war now burdened with his father's sword.
Still she doesn't see how she can give him peace amidst the horde.

[Also recorded by The Kennedys on "Songs of the Open Road" (2006).]
