I'm glad I could help you make your daily quota, even if the only dumb thing you could come up with was reading my dumb post.... I'm always looking out fir ya, Spawman. Might of fact... any time you can't think of something fir yerself dumb to do, you can always find one of my stupid posts to read and.. hey... that counts... I mean you won't be taking home no metals that way... but it counts... and it's safe. Mrs. Spaws gets that look on her face. You know the one... it says, "Hey, here it is bedtime and you ain't done no dumb stuff today!" I mean, you're on the spot! "Well, honey," you say. Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Bobert Date: 21 Feb 02 - 07:33 PM RUSTIC: First of all, as a relative newcomer myself, welcome. I like your sense of humor enough to let you know what I, as a man, have discovered about men. Now some men will jump in and say that I'm wrong but deep down inside, these men just haven't yet grasped the reality of their own denial. So here it is in a nutshell (no pun intended...): A man will do or say something stupid or embarrassing every day of his life. There, the cat is out of the bag. It took me years to figure this out but it holds true for all men, denial or not... Well, maybe not those in coma's but if they were to snap out of the coma tomorrow, you can bet they'd get caught up on their arrearages right quick. Now some men will wake up in the morning and say to themselves, "Today is the day I'm not going to do anything dumb," and then they go thru the day with their tummy all twisted up and still say or do some stupid thing. Now, since ol' bobert figured this out many years ago, I just got out and get it over with, like being the first in line for the flue shot. Yep, no twisted tummy, no anxiety, just DO IT. Oh.... you say you'd allready figured that out about men, heah? Okay, well at least I've got a jump on tomorrow.... |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Rustic Rebel Date: 21 Feb 02 - 04:14 PM Allow me to introduce myself- I'm a bitch, I'm a liar, I'm a sinner-- no wait --that's Allanis or somebody.Actually some folks might say I'm a bitch when they read some posts only because I seem to have some kind of funky sense of humor, dry and dark at times, but in light of that I just say Hey, better to have some kind of humor than none at all. So now that you all know I am some kind of wannabe stand up comedian, I actually have more interest in Blues. I play some kind of strange way about me guitar, I play harmonica (known as Shaky Legs Sue) I have attempted pal talk but so far I'm not configured right or something, but I will keep trying. I write a lot of strange music. Blues and what I want to call contemporary folk. I write a lot of humorous men bashing songs, and don't get me wrong I love men, they just seem to be a good thing to write about. Oh the evils of some men! (People try to talk me into writing love songs and they come out, Oh how I'll 'LOVE' it when your lying in your grave!) What did I tell you about the sick humor in me. Anyway enough. I suspect we will get to know each other more as time goes by. Thanks to all who have helped in past posts, and jeez-- there's no place like h... mudcat! Rustic Rebel |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Bobert Date: 20 Feb 02 - 10:31 AM Danged, ol' hillbilly Bobert did just kind of barge into the Catbox with out saying, "Hey". Like Rolfy, Iz from over at Tweedsburg where we on occasion talk about blues. A couple a' months back, Spawzer stopped by Tweezerburg and found me duct taped to a nasty potty chair. Well, he lent me a box cutter that he got at the airport gift shop and after I cut myself loose asked Spawzer if he knew of agood place to hide out and so he told me about this joint. Well, the first thing I did was start this "Department of Peace" thread which I now know was trolling. Maybe that's why they kept duct taping the poor ol' bobert's butt to stuff at Tweeds. Since lewarning what a troll is here in Catland, I have tired to do less of it, however me and poor ol' DougR got into it purdy good over the Bushman, which was not too good for a recovering troller. My musical background is nasty rock-n-roll, country rock, country, folk and most recently blues which which now occupies most of my musical life, and for which I owe the folks at Tweeds a big thanks for their patience and sharing of their knowledge. I'd like to also welcome Pooka and the other folks, who like myself, have wandered in and also ask the patience of the more seasoned Catters when we ask questions or make comments about stuff that occured before we got here. Thanks... great site... great folks and nice joint in which to hang out. Bobert |

We have a member listed as "the pookah," too-- who I think has never posted-- what's up with all this pooking around??? Pretty soon we will have enough teams for a whole league-- the Orillians, the Hullians, the Jezebel contingent (welcome to you guys too), and the Pookiferous! *G*G* ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: VoxFox Date: 15 Feb 02 - 01:02 PM Well, I'm gonna jump on the band wagon too. I've been around for a few months, have asked for help and received it just as quickly and am very grateful for it. I'm not and expert of anything but my love of music is pretty wide and deep. All types of music have been in my life so I do not have preferences. Currently I sing in a band that plays 50's and 60's music and I love it. Have been on the circuit for 30+ years locally so that probably dates me. *BG* Anyway, just wanted to say that I think Mudcatville is the best place around for friendship, help ,a shoulder, whatever. I like it and I ain't going nowhere. Thanks for listening! LOL VF aka Marge |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Jolene Date: 15 Feb 02 - 12:48 PM Just joined yesterday after lurking for a good many months. How does one change their name, WYSIWYG? I might not want to be stuck with Seventeen Stone forever you know. |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: tandrink Date: 15 Feb 02 - 11:23 AM Well, some of you may have seen my name before...usually in threads asking advice on guitar or playing the blues. So many of you have been really helpful (I'll take this opportunity to name names) especially JustaPicker, Spaw, Norton1, Wesley, Rick and a few folks I'm surely forgetting. But a heartfelt "Howdy" to the rest of you, too. Seems like you have a really nice community here. |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: wysiwyg Date: 15 Feb 02 - 09:30 AM Huw, you can actually change your name and it will change the posts retroactively too. Wanna? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: HuwG Date: 15 Feb 02 - 08:47 AM For Norton-1 especially, but all; no, "HuwG" isn't code for "hug". I should perhaps have written it as "Huw G", but as with the ceremony some forty years ago where they tried to drown me in a birdbath in church, I'm stuck with the name now. My real name usually comes back to me as, "Huw Janus", or perhaps, "Huw Jampton". BTW, I'm from the thriving musical centre of the High Peak district in Derbyshire in the UK; play folk and blues with enthusiasm but not much finesse as yet, on a Yamaha acoustic picked up from a pawn shop. |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: technission Date: 15 Feb 02 - 02:44 AM Hey all, this is great! I never even thought of doing an introduction thing, when I discovered allay'all I just jumped in to make an auction bid. I was going to just lurk but the temptation to post was too great, resistance was futile and I just self-assimilated. In the process I was spontaneously welcomed by many of you. I think I chomped some trollish lures too but I'm starting to understand when to keep my submit-message shut. I have a classical git that picks on me every so often, not frequently enough. When I was newly online a couple years ago I discovered OLGA and went through two reams of paper and a laser cartridge with decadent abandon. I learned about tabs from a Leonard Cohen songbook in college thirty-mumble years ago, Sangria! how can I have got so old and still feel so Jung?? FYI I'm a native Texan, living down here in Yewsten, anybody headed this way ever is welcome to contact me for grins, gripes, grits, malt beverages etc. I'll plug our Pacifica station as a great place for blues music every Sunday (12 continuous hours worth delivered by 4 host shows in 3-hour stints, sometimes in-studio touring musicians) anyway check out www.kpft.org/ I know they have streaming audio, just don't know how it works 'cause I get mine straight outta thin air. Oh, yeah- on Fridays at 11 PM there's "Dead Air" - a different live Dead concert every week. Saturdays all day the music shifts include "Lone Star Jukebox" , "Spare Change" , "Pickin' and Swingin" , Jazz ("Milestones") at 6 PM, oh yeah "Irish Aires" Sundays at 8PM hell, I just gave you the whole schedule forget the website but check it anyway for even more info and show playlists. The posted schedule may be loose due to recent managerial changes. Oh, say did I mention I'm Michael the Loquacious? Back on thread, thanks for the many welcomes, I like it here. Hasta la vista, michael |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: AndyJim Date: 14 Feb 02 - 11:30 PM I just joined recently solely so I could pester Spaw privately with my interminable questions about guitars. In spite of the several grave warnings I've gotten about him, Spaw ain't too bad. And I've gotten a number of very valuable responses to my several enquiries over the past few months. Many thanks to all. I'm afraid I'm taking more than I'm getting so far. Can't claim enough expertise to be of much help, but I'm sure enjoying it. All the best, Andrew (formerly GUEST Andrew) |

Oh & Can I have a harp please? & 2 Puddings? OKOKOK, sorry, I lied, I'm a Connecticut man, USA; Clare is some generations back; I'm talkin' entirely through me hat & I confess: I don't get it. Cabbages??? (How 'bout some Praties?) Fortunato - You & Harpmaker are Outing me. Well it had to happen. Bezzer zooner zann later, I zuppose. My "genre" (you *do* mean musically, yes?)is faux-Irish, Clancys/Makem era. I know it ain't exactly Authentic but I love it still. And the usual related menu of Scottish, seachantey, Canadian Maritimes, and so forth. Yknow. All that. In English please. (O God Bless England is my Prayer...) Love the gaelic tongues with the kind of pure chaste love that dinna speak 'em, so to speak. (Hey, I've even got a little Breton stuff. Been there once, too. Been to Ireland 3 times. Maybe once more, God willing..) I *like* the more recent/current Celtic Revival music, but I don't really KNOW it. Wanna learn more. Old dog, though; new tricks. I'm not a performer. I can sing pretty well. Wife plays guitar competently. I fool around with the oul' tin whistles but...well, 'nuff said. / Now, this IS what you were asking, isn't it? :} |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Steve in Idaho Date: 14 Feb 02 - 04:36 PM Wow - bunch of Folks coming out to say "Howdy" to us!! Be Welcome - Harmaker, C-Flat, Janie, Pooka, Toribw, HuwG (would that be Hug in code?), and Rolfy from the Tweed (we met earlier there)!!! This is the last bastion of fully accredited insanity that actually borders on normalcy. I've gotta plug the Sunday "Mudcat Song Circle" on Paltalk. We start at 1 PM Mudcat time (Eastern time zone). If you are unfamiliar with Paltalk there are tons of threads on it or you can PM me and I'll be more specific about what, where, when, and maybe even why!! We have an international group that participates and it is a blend of whatever the musicians bring to the circle. We also insist that all levels of ability come and participate. We have some folks who are just beginning and some long time players that are pretty good. It's the most supportive group on the internet for music!! Come in - sing - play - or listen and provide the applause - - *BG* Steve |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: The Pooka Date: 13 Feb 02 - 10:20 PM mmm1a - No I never chatted on Lycos. Never chatted much on anything to speak of. Harpgirl & Catspaw 49: Yes, on a recent "How Deep is Your Musical Knowledge" (or somethinglikethat) thread, I described myself as a shallow-running crankbait. (Busted, begob.)It's a type of fishing lure. Doesn't go too deep, y'see. But now that I'm a Member, my trolling days are over. Heh heh. But Catspaw, the crackpot Crankbait was me, not you. You're more like the light & fluffy wind that brings a ripple across the waves. :) MudcatName: I didn't pick my Guest handle Oulmole because I didn't want to impinge in any way upon the memory of the late beloved L.R. Mole, once I had learned of his greatness and his untimely passing. Very sorry I never knew him. My name, while generic, is intended as a shortened (for spacesaving) reference to The Pooka Fergus MacPhellimey, a character of the late writer Flann O'Brien (aka Myles na Gopoleen - Miles of the Little Horses)(hey Sorcha, I got yer spritely Horsies right heeah). The Pooka has been described as "an Irish devil in human form." Humbly, I shall do my best to live up to this legacy. Thank you. Glad to be here. |

(Uhh..that's the Rule, right? I read that in the FAQ's, I'm sure) Thanks to Susan for encouraging me & for starting this thread; and also to Susane (skw)(did I get that right?) for reassuring me in a past thread that you don't have to be a total folkie Expert to be a 'Catter (did I get THAT right??); and to Sorcha for helping me with lyrics search; and to all of you who've made me feel welcome. Nevermind.)As for checking under bridges, I understand Max is getting rid of the Trolls so why bother? / Deckman Bob: Izzit properly (more better)pukka? Damn. Well I didn't know. Learning already. I thought of being stukka, but only Guests can be dive-bombers & I've gone legit now. Annyway, zese hiere fokkers vass messerschmidts./ CarolC: No I'm not six feet tall but my wife is. Really, she is. Name of Chicago Molly ....As to Invisible, I was but I gave up the One Ring for a Cookie from Max. Wasn't easy. My Preciousssss..... Catspaw: Six and a HALF? Jaysus. Do I have to get a taller wife? Thanks for the research and the giant-lettered welcome. (How do ye do that?) O so it's rumpots & crackpots, izzit? I KNEW it was a good name choice; now I know why. I didn't have Harvey in mind; uhh, but um well yeah I like him too. I also like Clarence, he's such an angel...I'm getting Excessive here, ain't I? Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Rolfyboy6 Date: 13 Feb 02 - 08:28 PM Hi, I'm Rolfyboy6,I've been a member for a couple of months and a lurker and rare "Guest,Rolfyboy6" poster for more than a year. I'm one of the denizens of Tweedsblues. I joined when I realized what was going on with certain guests. Also I figured out the other benefits. My big interests are blues, bluegrass, and old-timey music. Just another old folkie in some ways, and I started hanging out in the jukes and honkytonks young. |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Jeri Date: 13 Feb 02 - 06:18 PM Janie's main musical talent is her voice! The woman has a beautiful, smooth, deep voice. Welcome Pooka, even if you ARE invisible at the moment. Welcome Greg...er, I mean greg. Looking forward to getting to know you. |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: greg stephens Date: 13 Feb 02 - 06:03 PM hello i'm new.started off as a guest under my real name, thought i'd stick to it. suppose i can join again with a nomdeplume if i want to be conroversial. set off a string of 80 letters by querying if guests are welcome. didnt realise this was a kind of thorny subject in mudcatville! i can only read threads about 40 items long dueto my ntl cabletv system, which means i cant tuddy all these long arguments. anyway, hello everyone. my interests are music, thats why i'm here. i'm not too clever with the shift key as kevin mcgrath has publicly pointed out. hi,guys greg |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: CarolC Date: 13 Feb 02 - 05:59 PM Janie (welcome to you, too), I'd say you're a pretty fine singer, too. At least your harmonies with Allan C were pretty memorable at the Getaway. |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Janie Date: 13 Feb 02 - 05:29 PM I'm not quite new, but I was recently thinking that I probably should have introduced myself when I joined up. Heard about Mudcat through my dear friend Dani, then she cajoled my sister and me into going to the 2002 Getaway with her. Had a great, restorative time, met a bunch of Mudcatters and a long lost friend, checked out the site when I got home and the rest is history. My main musical talent is appreciation. And I really appreciate all of the knowledgeable people who post to Mudcat. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Feb 02 - 04:47 PM "Six feet and a half" Carol...... Wilson, the attendant at Chumley's rest is looking up Pooka in the encyclopedia-------"A fairy spirit that appears in animal form, always very large. The pooka appears here and there, now and then, to this one and to that one. A benign but mischievious creature, very fond of rum-pots, crack-pots, and how are you Mr. Wilson?" Mr. Wilson?........(he flips the book over, shakes it, and finally throws it down saying, Who in the encyclopedia wants to know?"......Aw to hell with it!!! I love "Harvey"......Never saw any incarnation I didn't like. All that aside.... WELCOME POOKA!!!.....and believe me we got some real crackpots around here! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: CarolC Date: 13 Feb 02 - 04:07 PM Welcome to the Mudcat, The Pooka! Nice choice of a name. Are you six feet tall and invisible? |

Subject: RE: Hello to New Members From: Sorcha Date: 13 Feb 02 - 03:44 PM Pooka? Will that be a filet knife or a horsey type water sprite? Welcome, spritely one. Don't go into the water after dark and you should be OK. Oh, check under bridges, too, lol! |
Subject: Hello to New Members From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Feb 02 - 03:27 PM From time to time a thread has run introducing and welcoming new members. Sometimes a member will introduce you, sometimes you introduce yourself. Do jump in if you are new in these parts and want to introduce yourself. (And do read the FAQ conveniently located at the top of the daily thread list.) I started this one to welcome The Pooka. He started as "Guest, Oulmole," and has decided to join up. (I understand, actually, that "The Pooka" is short for a much longer name, but he can tell you about that.) The Pooka is a very punny guy and I am sure that in no time he and Art Thieme will be slamming the jokes around pretty thick. Welcome, The Pooka! ~Susan |
