Is the English tune "Long Odds" Playford or not??
I'm about to record it, and seeds of doubt about its origins have been sown. I'd just love to credit the correct author!
I'm sure there is some wise scholar out there who could help
Thanks
Ralphie

Not in Playford (CLICK HERE), at least under this title. The Fiddler's Companion says:

LONG ODDS. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). A Major. Standard. AABB'. The tune dates to c. 1796. Barnes (English Country Dance Tunes), 1986. Antilles (Island) AN-7003, Kirkpatrick & Hutchings - "The Compleat Dancing Master" (1973).

Masato....
Many thanks....!
I should have guessed that that pesky Kirkpatrick chap had a hand in it somewhere!
I'll follow up your lead...Now, this is why Mudcat is a good place to visit...
Cheers my friend
