Here's the new thread, since the old one was getting longish. And I'll start with including the last few posts from it for continuity:

Subject: RE: Get Well Áine!!! PART 2 From: CapriUni Date: 13-Feb-02 - 10:32 PM

Your mission, should you choose accept it:

Convince Áine to adopt a style of gardening that won't tear her back all to pieces.

There is one site that might just help, all about container gardening, here, that has enough purdy pictures and daring ideas to make any gardener drool.

Just had a phone conversation with Áine - all this way off in England. She sounds great, and is raring to go. Layne is going to do the planting and she'll be supervising, that's the plan anyway.

She's still not allowed near the computer, but she's going to be having a go at the guitar again today.

Great to talk to her. So glad she's on the mend.

Why guitar and not computer? Is the posture all that different, or is it simply length of time she tends to spend here?

And let's hope the computer interdiction doesn't last too long. Want to hear that girl on PalTalk!

Glad you're on the mend, Aine.

I have been computerless but have kept the goddess in my prayers. Is she willing to share her meds now that the pain is easier?

I gather the problem with Áine's computer at present, which is a desktop ine rather than a laptop, is that it does put quite a strain on the back sitting up at the desk and using the mouse and keyboard. Try it some time if you've even got an ordinary bit of backstrain.

So she's under strict orders not to cheat and use it for a while. Mind, giving strict orders to Áine might be counterproductive, but it's important she sticks to this one.

I'm hoping she's going to lie back and sing instead, with a microphone and a tape machine handy.

In the meantime, if you've got Real Audio or Real Plkayer or an equivalent that can play rm files, and you click on this you'll hear her singing her own song The Spring I was Six (the Tornado Song), and if you click here you'll hear her singing one I wrote, White Snow of the Springtime, with Layne.

I gather Áine's going to miss this year's North Texas Irish Festival, which is a real shame.

I dunno Kevin......She ought to be strong enough by that point to catch some of it anyway. At this point one of the hardest things is simply getting your strengt built back up again. It's amazing how fast muscles begin to atrophy and after 5 or 6 weeks it takes some to get yourself back in shape....It's not a pain thing, just a "tired-out" thing!

I talked with Aine earlier today and I'm sure she is well on the road back. I'll bet in another week she'll be reaching the "rarin' to go" point. This morning she got out of bed and cleaned her kitchen cabinets........What's that tell you? The strength just takes a little time to come back and until it does your endurance is a little down.

She may well make part of that festival Kevin! Are you going to make it NEXT year???

Spaw

It's a long way from here to there, so I doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

I hope Áine does make it this year, because I know she was looking forward to it - but when I was speaking to her she sounded pretty certain about not being able to go. Mind that was the day after the op.

Cleaning up the place maybe says more about determination than strength. No shortage of that I'm sure.

McGrath, Thanks so much for posting the links to those songs. Lovely songs, lovely voices, lovely harmonies!

Áine, here's hoping you're back to singing again soon if not already. Hope the pain's all gone soon and you get your full strength back soon, too.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier. I did talk with her today and she sounded pretty good. Couldn't sleep, after waking up at 430a, so she got up and did laundry! She got to practice her *plee-ays* a LOT.**BG**

She is going to play in the dirt, sometime soon, but only while sitting in a chair and only to put little pansies and other annuals into a planter. She will NOT be doing any lifting.

She is still tiring kind of easily and can only do about 10 minutes sitting at the computer, so she's checking email only, on an infrequent basis. She has been able to cut down on the pain meds to just motrin most of the time, so that's good. And, she will start physical therapy mid-March. She's all in a dither about finding a new bathing suit.:-) Well, not really a dither, but she has to find one!**BG**

Oh, and Dear Hubby is setting up a craft table for her in the garage. Her first project will be to decoupage some stuff for some nice ladies who sent her flowers. All in all, she's much better!

Áine, soooo glad to hear you are recovering so well, if slowly. It's obvious your spirit survived the injury! Let's hope the bod will fare as well, in time.

Luv,

Genie
