Subject: Another reason to be homeless From: Anahootz Date: 16 Feb 02 - 10:56 PM This is quite an expensive piece of machinery. You would think they could have spray-painted over that blemish on the back for the kind of cash they are asking... On another note, I would like to take the opportunity to show off the most recent arrival in my family...a fine-lined boy, weighing a tad over 4lbs at birth. Healthy, Happy, and very woody-sounding, he is currently on his way home, but pictures of this boy are Here ;) 'Hootz |

Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Justa Picker Date: 16 Feb 02 - 11:30 PM Actually Bob, Sorcha is joking! Yep, that one's been sitting there now a number of months. They had another one about a year or so ago for similar money in better shape, especially the back...but really 140K for a guitar? Even I have my limits. And for 140K I could buy 6-10 really great vintage guitars.*G* |
Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: 53 Date: 16 Feb 02 - 11:35 PM I thought that might be your answer, but who would want a guitar such as that? |
Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Chip2447 Date: 16 Feb 02 - 11:53 PM Personally, I'll take all of them that people want to GIVE me... Chip2447 |

Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Kaleea Date: 17 Feb 02 - 12:40 AM If anyone is vacating their home due to reposession cuz they'd rather have the house reposessed than the guitar, let me know, & I'll move in & take over payments. On the house, that is! |

Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Feb 02 - 04:39 AM The words of 'Judas and Mary' spring to mind here.... still, I think if I could a) afford it and b) play guitar, I'd probably do it!!! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Bill D Date: 17 Feb 02 - 07:53 PM months...no nibbles?..Why, they might have to take *gasp* as little as $120,000 for it! (that's 1400 for the sound, and 118,600 for the name and serial #)

Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Justa Picker Date: 17 Feb 02 - 08:01 PM The one they had last year (and keep in mind the D-45 from this era is considered THE Holy Grail of vintage Martins as there were only a total of 91 ever made between 1934 and 1943) started out at $160 K. Several months later it was reduced to 140K whereupon it sold and no doubt ended up in Japan in a climate controlled safe for some well heeled investor. The one last year was in better cosmetic condition and did not have the finish all worn away on the back. This guitar will eventually sell, and rest assured it will become someone's museum piece and will not be played regularly. The question is for an extremely well-heeled person, is it a good investment? Long term yes...short term, you'd have a helluva time getting your money out of it, as has been witnessed by the current seller who's had it on Elderly for at least 8 months and prior to that had it listed on Ebay -with no sale. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: Grab Date: 18 Feb 02 - 08:17 AM For that price, it's never going to be sold to anyone who'll actually play it. If you're lucky, it'll end up in a glass case in the Hard Rock Cafe where ppl can see it, but more likely it'll end up in some rich guy's house as set-dressing. Graham. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: GUEST,Celtic Soul, sans cookies Date: 18 Feb 02 - 09:38 AM Holy Mother of GOD! Did I read that correctly??? $140,000.00??? Is that US or Lira? OK, I'll admit that I know *very* little about the way instruments are valued (with the exception of my drums...I know my $400.00 Buck tunable is better than my old pakistani), so I can't claim to know it definitely is not worth the price they're asking. If someone could explain to me why it's worth that much, I'd be eternally grateful. The Frugal Fannie in me about had cardiac arrest. |
Subject: RE: BS: Another reason to be homeless From: SINSULL Date: 18 Feb 02 - 10:07 AM tHIS REMINDS ME OF MY SON AT EIGHT WHO WAS VERY CONCERNED THAT WE COULD NOT AFFORD A NEW mERCEDES. i FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION TO HIS DEPRESSION BY TELLING HIM THAT IF WE SOLD OUR HOME AND ALL OUR POSSESSIONS (Damn CAPSLOCK! That hasn't happened in a while.), and were willing to live in the car, we could afford one. This satisfied him. Fortunately, he got his own apartment before vintage instruments caught his interest. |
