Subject: Lyr Add: MY HEART'S TONIGHT IN IRELAND From: Baz Date: 18 Mar 98 - 07:55 PM I heard this tonight on the radio by Andy Irvine. Can anyone help with the chords and or ABC please? I apologise in advance to all my Irish friends for the spelling of the place names but I'm sure they'd be the same with Cornish ones. My heart's tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare CHORUS: My heart tonight is far away across the rolling sea In the sweet Milltown (? Malbake) and it's there I'd love to be So long ago and far away but nothing can compare My hearts tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare In the town of Scarup the sun was shining in the sky When Willie Clancy played his pipes and the tears welled in my eye Many years have passed and gone since the times we had there But my heart's tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare. CHORUS That August in Killrush when the rain was lashing down And our hotel was that haybarn on the outskirts of town We were all sick and feverish and Dolan had the flu But Johnny produced some whisky and the sun came smiling through. CHORUS Those nights in Six Mile Bridge when the songs and music flowed And when it came to closing time sure the lights were turned down low And the sergeant from Killkishen he would by us all one more And we never left that pub before the clock was striking four. CHORUS The (? Hinch and Ennisdaimond Liskanner and Killkey) But best of all was Milltown when the music flowed so free Willie Clancy and the County Clare I'm forever in your debt For the sights and sounds of yesterday are shining memories yet My heart tonight is far away across the rolling sea In the sweet Milltown (? Malbake) and it's there I'd love to be So long ago and far away but nothing can compare My hearts tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare In the days of Sweeney in the sweet County Clare. Milltown Malbay, Lahinch, Ennistymon, Liscannor, Sixmilebridge, Kilrush. These are all towns in County Clare, (approx 1/2 way up the west coast of Ireland.) I looked the names up on a map but couldn't find some of them. Slainte alison |

In the town of Scarriff the sun was shining in the sky When Willie Clancy played his pipes and the tears welled in my eyes. Many years have passed and gone since the times we had there But my heart's tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare. (chorus) My heart tonight is far away, across the rolling sea In the sweet Miltown Malbay, it's there I love to be. So long ago and far away but nothing can compare; My heart's tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare. That August in Kilrush when the rain was lashing down And our hotel was that hay barn on the outskirts of town. We were all sick and feverish, and Dolan had the flu, But Johnny produced some whiskey, and the sun came smiling through. (chorus) Those nights in Sixmilebridge when the songs and music flowed And when it came to closing time, sure the lights were turned down low. And the sergeant from Kilkishen, he would buy us all one more And we never left that pub before the clock was striking four. Lahinch and Ennistimon, Liscannor and Kilkee, But best of all was Miltown, when the music flowed so free. Willie Clancy and the County Clare, I'm ever in your debt For the sights and sounds of yesterday are shining memories yet. My heart tonight is far away, across the rolling sea In the sweet Miltown Malbay, it's there I love to be. So long ago and far away but nothing can compare, My heart's tonight in Ireland in the sweet County Clare. In the days of Sweeney, in the sweet County Clare. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: My Heart's Tonight in Ireland From: Big Al Whittle Date: 11 Feb 07 - 10:44 AM Just a light hearted contribution Kat. Just another pastel shade to add to the Celtic twilight. I don't think the metaphor was meant to extend as far as the shoe. What's the matter, did you never go across the sea to Ireland and see the barefoot gossoons munching burgers in Arnie's Hard Rock Cafe? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: My Heart's Tonight in Ireland From: katlaughing Date: 11 Feb 07 - 11:26 AM Not yet, I've not. But, I have heard Spaw complain about dragging his willy out of the mud when he had occasion to relieve himself from over the edge of a bridge.**BG** (My apologies for drifting the thread.) |
