Subject: RE: too ral loo ral loo ral chords From: Spartacus Date: 18 Feb 02 - 10:27 AM Yep. I booked a gig on the day before. I just learned "lang a growin" (or young but daily growin), "whiskey in a jar", "cockles and mussles", and believe it or not, i worked out a country-ish version of "danny boy" for fun...Hopefully that'll keep everyone happy...anyone know any other irish songs that i simply MUST learn? |

Subject: RE: too ral loo ral loo ral chords From: berk Date: 18 Feb 02 - 10:47 AM You can easily do Irish Lullaby, When Irish Eyes are Smiling and My wild Irish rose in a medley. If you're in America with an older crowd, McNamara's Band is a good Idea. If the crowd is into participation, Wild Rover, Black Velvet Band and All for me Grog go over very well. And make sure you sing the Parting Glass to remember the Clancy Brothers. |

Subject: RE: too ral loo ral loo ral chords From: The Pooka Date: 18 Feb 02 - 01:15 PM Yer welcome I'm sure. Not triggering the avalanche I expected though. Ahh it's airly yet...th'boys are still ashleep after th' all-night Rosary Retreat... Suggstions for to pick & choose maybe: A beautiful love song: Eileen Aroon Oldybutgoodie favorites in addition to berk's: The Rose of Tralee; Mother Machree (Mo Chroi) Rehabilitatd old self-denigrating dance-hall-type Oirish-Amurrican numbers: Finnegan's Wake; The Irish Rover. Unrehabilited: Who Threw the Overalls in Mrs. Murphy's Chowder. Lovely lullaby: October Winds King (woops bad word; Ard-Righ, chieftain) of the rebel songs: The Rising of the Moon Season-appropriate sea chantey: St. Patrick Was A Gentleman. Wry (rye?) temperance song: Nancy Whiskey. (I think it may be Scottish but if so, close enough & we stole it. An Ulster version is Darkley Weaver.) Nice come-all-ye-home closing song: Come By The Hills. (The Parting Glass, as per berk above, for the encore, if ye *really* want to be Clancified.) National Anthem: The Soldier's Song. OK morethanenough, already. I'll leave you alone now, and go back to the Lies thread. :) Breaka leg, knock 'em dead, lay 'em in the aisles. Hittem again b'y!!
