From: Spartacus

Here is a really amazing song written buy a guy I knew on Mackinac Island MI named Doug "the whistler" Van Norstrom. He used to sing and whistle with a guitar player and he made a tape of songs that he wrote. I've been playing this one for years and I always get questions about it's origin.

Dr. Wistars Wonder Cure

Verse: Way back in 1883 you could buy good drugs at the pharmacy just ask my grandpa he should know he said ill get high before i go

he told the doc he felt a little sore just so he could score a little more he plowed the upper 40 yesterday that mans as strong as me i'd have to say

chorus: and now we go down every morning to the drugstore for a fix Dr. wistars wild cherry cocaine and elixir and you know it sounds ok to me grandpa take me down to the pharmacy

Verse: My grandpa never took no pills he said whats in this bottle will cure your ills he loved his family and his wife cuz he had found the key to a happy life

And i never knew a man in better health he stored those little bottles on the shelf boy i must declare now what a guy 93 and still hes gettin high

Chorus

Verse: and i know that that old man was not insane cuz he said son he said forget about material gain and dont try to be something that youre not thank your lucky stars for what you got

well now me and my grandpa are both grown men he turned me onto coke when i was 10 since that day iver never been the same and im proud to carry on the family name

Chorus

Written by Doug "the Whistler" Van Norstrom
