I'm looking for a song from the movie the trail of the lonesome pine th first few lines are everybody knows its just a muddy river but to me it's heaven on high let me live and make my home never more to roam where the lazy lazy river rolls by

Mr Happy, if you followed the instructions to the sheet music at American Memory, you would know that there are only two verses plus chorus, and that the correct title is "On the Trail of the Lonesome Pine." It will also be found, 5th or 6th item, if you type in "In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia."

Thank's for all the links everybody, Its been an absolute pleasure to work this song and get it tight. It goes down great.-For the guru's- Key "F" (?,to suit singer)-also the key L&H sings it. But I think it was originaly wrote in "C" Great song, Try going right up the neck on the guitar, the more you do , the better it sounds.(But only in parts) 7nths play a big part also.John

Every once in a while Daddy would whip out the ukelele or the mandolin and sing "In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, on the Trail of the Lonsome Pine" while mugging like Groucho Marx at my mother, and he would pour her a drink. They seemed to go bed early those nights after he'd been playing that stuff to her and making her laugh.

The song was sung in the godawful movie (starring Fred MacMurray?). I remembered it fondly from my childhood, then made the mistake of watching it again on one of the TV channels. The John Fox book was pretty dreadful, too.

I wonder if you are looking for the song which i believe to be composed by U. Utah (bruce) Phillips which has a line which goes like this:

the Blue Ridge Mt.s of Virginia, are the closest thing to heaven that i know. ...da da da.....never let me go....

I don't remember any more of it,' but this is NOT the same as the theme from the movie based on a book by Gene Stratton Porter....
